Default I Can't Wait for Shea to be torn down...

at least then maybe a new class of fans will be going to the games. The morons at today's game make me ashamed to be a Mets fan.

Surfing The Mets - NY Daily News

So more than a few fans - an awful lot of them, actually - booed Johan Santana as he headed to the dugout for the first time of the Shea/Citi Field portion of his career.

Really?

Obviously, the guy doesn’t have much of a track record of success to stand on, but come on guys and gals. Not much of a grace period before giving one of the best pitchers of this generation - if not No.1 - the Rojas/Mota/Schoeneweis treatment.

Santana admittedly was not at his best today, no sir. As super as so many aspects of his game are, the long ball clearly is his Kryptonite, and he served up three homers today to one of the deepest lineups in the NL. (I know that is so, because a much smarter baseball man than me sees fit to bat catcher Jason Kendall, who is hitting over .400, ninth).

The rest of Johan’s final line was 6.2 innings, six hits, five runs (four earned), two walks, seven K’s and two WPs.

Not Cy Young, no. Not Anthony Young, either.

I was at the game, and the couple people around me that were booing were directing it at Steamboat for not taking Santana out after he was clearly gassed. I think that was the general sentiment. No way to tell Santana that, unfortunately. But, as he got close to the dugout, the fans nearby stood and cheered for him. I think this is overblown.

Just judging from the opening day crowd in the Upper Deck I have to say I see what you mean. In the late innings some fans were getting downright belligerent if people refused to participate in the Wave. (no kidding)

I never thought I'd say this but maybe cutting off the alcohol for certain sections at certain times isn't such a rotten idea

I'm sure their belligerence was more a result of what they were seeing on the field....

Not sure they were paying attention.

I wasnt at the game, but it sure sounded like the fans were booing Santana as he came off the field. I was very unhappy at the fans when I heard it. I hope Mojo is right, that it was more directed at Steamboat. I was not happy that Willie left him out there for so long, as it looked like he was out of gas. Maybe Steamboat would have been happier if he blew out his arm today

At any rate, the new stadium is going to be so pricey, that the average joe wont be able to afford going to the games. You might get your wish HoJo.

They WERE Booing at Santana. In fact, a reporter during the post-game show asked Santana directly if he had heard such a response from the fans in all his years in Minnesota. He took the high ground and said that when he is on the field he ignores all of these crowd responses and focuses on the game and pitching.

He also said that, although no player likes to be booed, he can understand Mets fans reaction given the fact that "for so many years they weren't good" (He actually said something to this effect which cracked me up).

Will maybe this behavior, which seems to be increasing, is the reason why we are pretty much a .500 team at home. When will these idiots finally get it.

Tons of dumb Mets fans boo at idiotic times, but when I'm there, I'm always convinced the loudest ones come from Yankee fans who think it's funny.

That could be, though there are a fair amount of dumb drunks at Shea. Like the prick who thought it would be funny to stomp on a ketchup packet Friday night and splattered it on my white jersey as well as some other folks' clothing. As well as the drunkard who was cursing up a blue streak on the LIRR train, children around him be damned, because he missed his stop at Woodside because he was "taking a ****ing piss" and his "****ing douchebag" friends didn't wait for him or somehow stop the train from departing before he was done. I often wonder if some of these people are still drunk from before the game, because if they got THAT drunk off of stadium beers then either they are extreme light weights or they spent a fortune.

When he came out of the game I heard plenty of cheers as well. Any booing was at Willie IMO. The guy had thrown around 98 pitches and Willie tried to get another inning out of him.

Santana didnt look great, then again, neither did Wright in the field who cost him a run and definitely added a couple pitches to Santana's work load on the day.

That aside, with 0 out and men on 1st and 2nd, Santana couldnt execute the sacrifice and I thought that was a key play in the game.

I wouldnt worry about Santana as I have seen he is a slow starter in the past. Really only the HR killed him in the game.
