McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

He was one of the spring casualties.

I have no problem with this signing if Mrs. Deepleft is ineffective in his starts.

He's worth a shot.

Meh. While Vargas sucks he is a much more of an appealing option to get some starts rather than than dreck like Armas, Stokes, and Bostick.

Vargas his signed. Not bad as another arm, not that I'm counting on him being anything more than a place-filler who could, in theory, outpitch Figueroa, Sosa, Pelfrey, Armas, etc. as our sixth/seventh starter. Maybe the Mets get lucky and he fills a swingman role effectively.

Fantasy Baseball - news, projections, cheatsheets, depth charts, draft guide - Rotoworld.com

Mets signed RHP Claudio Vargas to a minor league contract.

Vargas will start off in extended spring training before going to Triple-A New Orleans. He pitched well all spring, so he should be an option for the Mets in a couple of weeks. Once he's ready, he'll likely replace Nelson Figueroa in the rotation.

Another arm can't hurt, though I'm not expecting anything out of him beyond what I expect from Pelfrey/Figueroa (high 4s ERA).

2 starts at AAA. Bump whoever is pitching tomororw, and get him in there. start him again next tuesday/wednesday, and call him up to make the start next sunday/monday, if figueroa struggles. as long as nelson pitches well though, keep vargas at AAA though. I wonder if we'd be better with nelson in the pen, and vargas pitching though. I think vargas could be a big surprise for us this year, a la sosa in 07.

Ed Coleman this morning forewarned that "Vargas makes Trachsel seem fast" in terms of pitching style..

Well there's a DH in Atlanta on May 20, right in the middle of a brutal part of the schedule (3@home to the Yanks, 4@Atlanta, 3@Colorado). Real fans know that Santana and Pedro will both throw shutouts that day...
