Default How to talk to "Real" Fans

Hey Casey... does today's loss sting a bit more because you know the fans are all out here for the final home opener at Shea and you guys didn't deliver a win?

Casey: "We always wanna win for these fans. These great fans, when they were kids, they were in their crib. What were they saying. Not mama. Not papa. But Metsie! Metsie! Metsie!"

Hey Davey... does today's loss sting a bit more because you know the fans are all out here for the final home opener at Shea and you guys didn't deliver a win?

Davey: "I don't know if it hurts more than any other loss. We always wanna get out there and wipe the floor with the other team and that didn't happen today. Losing hurts. That's why I'm gonna have these guys out early tomorrow, working on all the stuff they need to work on. And then we're gonna go out there and try to get one back in the other column as quickly as possible."

Hey Bobby... does today's loss sting a bit more because you know the fans are all out here for the final home opener at Shea and you guys didn't deliver a win?

Bobby: "Of course it does. These people pay to watch us play hard and execute and win ballgames, and we just didn't do that today. Shea's a really special place and they're never gonna have another one of these, and face it, we always wanna win those precious ballgames here in our home park in front of the home crowd. But hopefully, we'll get out there tomorrow and Thursday, win a couple, and make these great fans of New York forget all about today."

Hey Willie... does today's loss sting a bit more because you know the fans are all out here for the final home opener at Shea and you guys didn't deliver a win?

Willie: "Naw, man. It's just another game."

Yup. That pretty much sums up Willie's attitude as Mets manager. I hope he can put it to good use, when he interviews for other Managers jobs when he gets fired. The thing is, he will probably be interviewing for Minor League positions next time around.

So Willie, did getting fired by the Mets sting a bit more knowing that the team planned to replace you with a wet mop?

Willie: Naw, man. It's just another job.

Yup.

Oh well, on the bright side we probably only have one more year of the Steamboat

Steamboat's ship has sailed if the team doesn't turn it around in a month or so.

Even dozy Art Howe would have said the right thing to that question. And believed it, too.

Willie's on the wrong side of town for this stoic Yankee sh*t. And his team embarrasses itself too often for it to remain plausible.

The more I think about it, the angrier I get. Didn't Willie claim during the off-season that he learned his lesson and would not assume everything would work itself out? Instead, we're getting the same attitude that gave us quotes about sweet tasting champagne.

"Naw, it's just another game" **** you 'boat, I'm sorry I wasted my time defending you last season.

If that. I wonder who he throws under the bus on his way out.

You left an important one out, KO:

Hey Gil... does today's loss sting a bit more because you know the fans are all out here for the final home opener at Shea and you guys didn't deliver a win?

"Well, I expect the team I put out there to act like men... to be responsible for their actions on and off the field. If these guys aren't giving 100% effort, if I think they're dogging it, they'll get a hefty fine and I'll pull 'em off the diamond and get somebody in here who cares about what they're doing."

Yeah he should explain that to the ticket pricing and promotion department.

I've given Wille a lot of leeway with these stupid quotes, thinking he was just awful at interviews but... you know that old saying that a team takes on the temperament of their manager?
