| Anyone else embarassed here when Rick Astley was played in the eighth inning as a result of the Internet prank by a few sites. How sad. |

| I thought it was funny as hell. If the team is going to be so concerned with the song playing during the 8th inning break it might as well be some randomly stupid song. Maybe then the brain trust will start worrying about what actually matters, the product they are putting on the field.

| The crowd booed lustily. And wrose, the Shea announcer made it sound GOOD...like they were AHPPY they got pranked like that. Pathetic. Jeff Wilpon looked embarrassed in his box (thank you, binoculars). This team deserves whatever embarrassment it gets with these cheap stunts.

| I think it was actually the most entertaining Mets moment of the season so far. It blows away the two laughers against the lowly Marlins, and certainly out-entertains the crap play they've displayed in every other game this year. The story behind this situation is far more compelling than the entire Met roster so far.

Not sure how I feel, it was a dumb contest and I think even they realized it based on the fact that they decided to count the stunt votes anyway (there are ways to discount votes that seem to be part of an internet campaign) and thought that they'd give Deadspin and the other sites the satisfaction of knowing that pranking voting stuff on the internet does work. People had the same thing happen to them a couple of times when they did internet polls for their "10 Most Beautiful People" polls where major internet campaigns sabootaged the voting and proved how stupid internet polling is. It may have been the same year, but Howard Stern got the Beetlejuice guy on his show (real ugly African-American little person) to win one year, and a bunch of popular pro-wrestling sites got Ric Flair to be in the top of the poll as well. This was during a time period where he was having real problems with his promotion at the time and the sites wanted to show support (be Fair to Flair) for Flair by showing the promotion how much he meant to the fans. People allowed the votes to stand despite obvious flooding and such. | |

| Mets botched the whole song thing. instead of quick choice, they should have let it ride for at least a couple of weeks, with a new song every game. With decent fan suggestions included. For each song, gauge fan response at ball park. Have online yes/no vote to determine if song should be played again. Eventually, there'll be a few songs that stand out above the others for positive response, on both counts. THEN you take your vote (with no write-ins) And it's time for a break from Lou Monte in 7th inning stretch. Though they'd probably just bring back "YMCA" . Yikes! |
