Default The next two games will determine the season...

I honestly believe this. They lose two and this team will never recover.

The Mets are pretty much a .500 team in this configuration.

NPG in all honesty, you can't pull out a card on April 8th that you clearly intend to use on April 18th, April 30th, May 7th, May 19th, May 30th, June 9th, June 14th, June 22nd, June 30th, July 6th, July 14th, July 20th, July 31st, August 8th, August 19th, August 29th, September 9th and September 20th.

at minimum.

don't be ridiculous, that would be like Padrino not having the season wrapped up a couple of dozen times.

I will say this, I have said all offseason, that the one thing this team couldn't have was a bad start after the ending last year. As the saying goes, "You can't win a division in April but you can lose it." I think we can all agree the season couldn't start any worse than it has. They need to turn it around, and I mean fast, or they will never bounce back.

That would be an improvement over what we've seen.

I completely agree... they needed to come out and wipe that terrible feeling away from their clubhouse and their fandom...

They may have beat the hell out of the Marlins but against the teams that are competitive, they've looked like the same ol' Mets from 2007.

sorry I don't buy that saying as every team in the National League East except the Braves lost the division in April last year and yet one came back to win it, I am not tying to paint a pretty picture, but never use the word never, it just looks silly, the season definitely could have started worse in a variety of fashions.

How?

Let's look at all the bad things that have happened so far:

- Can't beat a good team.....check
- Injuries....check
- Slow starts by people who had a lot prove (Reyes in particular)....check
- Every single weakness being exposed.....check
- Lack of fire......check
- Same overall malaise as last year.....check

The only thing that would have been worse would have been if Santana and/or Wright got hurt. Otherwise this is pretty much as bad as it gets.

Woohoo, the Darth Helmet is back. LOL

But I have to agree with 15 here... this season could start out ALOT worse. Go look at the Detroit Tigers...

The problem is that this team will struggle to score runs all year because of the bottom of the order, and the bullpen just plain blows in close games. Not one guy in the pen can stop inherited runners from scoring. It's unbelievably bad in that respect.

They've never won a playoff game since Larry Johnson retired. They haven't had a winning season since Larry Johnson retired. Larry is the man

They have no power arms in the pen. That was the problem last year and it will be the problem again this year. Do they have anyone, anywhere in the system that can just throw the ball hard and occasionally over the plate? Again they put too much faith in Sanchez coming back and that will be their undoing in the pen.

Last April the Mets got off to great start the Phils were getting bombed.....while I HATE what I've seen from the Mets thus far, the next 2 games arent any bigger than the first 2 games of the season, especially with Pelfrey throwing 1 of them.

A month from now things could be much different....they could could have Sanchez back in the pen. Duque back in the rotation and Alou back in the lineup.

There are 3 guys I really believed were not meant to help this team

Pedro, Duaner, Alou. I hope I am wrong. I won't count on any of them until they deliver for 2 months. I just feel this might be one of those transition years. Win or loss, it just smells like a year that needs to shed a lot of old fat and bring in some new blood. They can still have a good year, but I would expect it to come through unknowns (lesser knowns) like Pagan, Church (I hope) and maybe a surprise rookie or 2.
