| I'm really starting to despise this waste of a pitcher. An 8th inning pitcher he's not. Why do the Mets continue to push him in this role? |

| At minimum, he's the best non-Wagner reliever in the bullpen. Heilman's frustrating as hell sometimes and when he doesn't get his changeup down he's absolute toast, but overall, he's done a reasonable job.

| But as a setup guy he's never had BALLS. C'mon Yadier "f'ing" Molina defines your career??? This guy always looks as if circumstances dictate that he is going to pitch late in a tight game he is more than likely to serve up the big hit to the other team. His face often wreaks of failure and that is not good if you want to be a relief pitcher in close games. |

| Heilman has a great second half each of the last two seasons and he was one of the few players on the roster last September who didn't absolutely pack it in down the stretch. Aside from the Molina homer, Heilman was basically untouched in the 2006 playoffs. If you want to argue that calling attention to the entire playoffs instead of one at bat is sort of a "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"-type statement, that's fine, but I think it shows that Heilman has shown "balls" in October, besides in September and other months. Heilman's no future closer and he definitely deserves his share of criticism when he walks the leadoff guy too often or when his changeup is hit 450 feet by some never-will-be, but I doubt you can find even a dozen non-closer righty full-inning set-up men who have been clearly and consistently better than him over the last three seasons.

| You're either Pappelbon out of the gate or you aren't. Some guys are bulldogs and make it happen. Other guys are just soft. That's the only real reason I was scared of Pelfrey and worried about this pen. These guys don't have that intangible quality and I don't see the results changing over time in big games. What you see is what you get. No mirage.

| the problem is that he's the 8th inning guy, rather than the 7th inning where he should be. No way should he be as untouchable (tradewise) as he is on this club, but the fact is there is not ONE better pitcher in the pen. That is sad... |

| I know it's tired. But Heilman should be a starter, not a reliever, period. He will go to another team, they will give him the ball every fifth day, and we will be fuming with anger when he goes 14-8 with an ERA under 4. |

He's a good reliever however, and barring the odd meatball day he's above average by a fair bit. | |

| Super Moderator | So we're blaming HEILMAN, as opposed to the NOffense, who gave Mets fans us all of one run and the 2007-like LOB and C*cktease Dance? Oh, and anyone else sick of Castillo and his slap hitting? I'd bet that if the game stayed at 1-0, the Mets would have found a away NOT to score that run in the 9th. |
