Default First must win of the season....

One week in and this joke of a team is already facing a game they need to win. This is why we got Santana. He needs to win games like this. Otherwise we are heading home with a losing record, having been swept by the Braves about to face our division rival trotting out the dregs of our rotation. Should be fun.

Ok... now this is where I stop agreeing with you. It would be nice if they won today, but it is by no means a must win.

Haha, I knew eventually I would get there.

Obviously the game isn't "must win" but I will not be feeling good about this team if Santana gets beaten like a drum today.

Look, the Mets of recent vintage tick me off as much as almost anyone here, but calling a game played on April 6th a "must win" is an over-reaction.

It's only a "must-win" if you're easily set off by M&MD and all the other tools who will babble on and on about "Turner Field", ad infinitim.

BTW-
2008 Mets vs Atlanta W 0, L 1
2007 Mets vs Atl W 9, L 9
2006 Mets vs Atl W 11, L 7

Yep, the past two seasons, Atlanta's domination of the NY Mets has continued... We've managed a paltry 20 wins vs 17 losses...

Feeling good about this team only comes around once in a great while.

Two scenarios:

Johan Santana pitches well, but the NOFense/Willie's typical idiotic handling of the 'pen fail him. More fuel for the "Willie must go if this team is to go anywhere" arguement.

Johan Santana gets slapped around by the Braves 1-8 hitters...then, we're in deep s***.

Agreed, but how about Willie and the Mets taking their heads out of their asses and playing a good game this afternoon? I'll sign up for that.

Johan gets bombed and then Reyes tweaks his hammy.

Hey, why not go for the jugular in terms of pessimism. I miss it

That said, I am not even remotely worried because the Braves and Phillies are 2 dung heaps. That said, I never liked Willie as a manager and still do not trust this bullpen in a BIG SPOT because...none of them are PROVEN big game winners and 2007 really effed with my head.

So, hopefully, this team figures it out and it will all start today with a royal ass beating against those hicks.

No game before the ASB is "must-win". But I get a strong sense this team still wouldn't recognize if its back was against the wall.

Disagree about Philly and Atlanta being dung-heaps, and dismissing them easily.

While both have obvious flaws, both have just enough firepower to cover their flaws, at least in terms of keeping the Mets from thinking it will be easy.

The Philly lineup is formidable, and they do have Cole Hammels with some servicable back end of the rotation guys behind him.

Atlanta has an annoying ability to have its no names (Matt Diaz, etc) manage to come up big.

They are beatable, but not if:
A) Willie is a knot-head
B) Any other Mets get hurt
C) Delgado continues to blow
D) All of the above
