Default Willie's Replacement

When Steamboat is fired in about a month who do you think they should bring in?

Isiah Thomas. He might be looking for a job and he's less embarassing as a manager. He also has more of a brain and he knows more about baseball.

Well, the Mets lost their second game of the season. Sure, why not talk about firing Willie!

Haha, nice.

Is Mike Hargrove looking for a job?

EDIT: Although for all I know Hargrove might have been in the right place at the right time with Cleveland. How about Oberkfell? Does anyone know if he's any good? He did win BA's Minor League Manager of the Year in 2005. HoJo seems to know a little something about hitting, but he has no track record. I guess I'd go with Oberkfell right now, but I think just about anyone who isn't Willie Randolph would be an improvement.

1. Willie should have been fired, at latest, within ten minutes of Tom Glavine's last Mets pitch hitting Dontrelle Willis in the ass on the last day of the season.

2. IMO, you're taking this thread too seriously. At least as I see it, this is more gallows humor than a serious indictment of the 2008 Mets. I agree that 4 games mean nothing. Heck, a month means little. That said, I think Willie is a moron beyond proportion and I wish he was fired, but it's too early for me to expect his imminent firing.

Willie's ass should've been canned after he had Glavine pinch hitting in the bottom of the ninth in a one run game last year because he was out of players on the bench. Of course, the Mets were in first place then so anyone who questioned Willie's first place brilliance was automatically labeled a shortsighted idiot.

The Mets make the playoffs even with a mediocre manager last year -- you know, one that wouldn't have kept marching Mota out in important situations.

If the Mets win anything this year it'll be in spite of this clown, not because of him. That won't stop the crusaders from defending him when this stacked roster winds up in first place.

Oh, and no, these first two losses have nothing to do with this rant. Even if Willie did have Schoeneweis facing a switch-hitting Chipper Jones, and did call for Reyes to sac bunt.

Bah, I'm getting way too worked up for a Saturday evening. Nothing some beer can't fix.

I know it's only two losses, but Willie is a terrible manager and should've been fired right after the collapse, and, if not then, right after he said "next time I'll say something." The most important thing a manager has to do is motivate his players. If he can't do that, who needs him?

Bring back Bobby V!

I dont want Willie fired because the manager will hten be Jerry Manuel.

I'll just wait for the off-season, and bring Obie to the big show, finally

I think the thing is that frustrates many on this board is the "sacred cow" treatment Randolph gets from the media, and even sports radio hosts/callers, whom if this wasn't;

-A beloved former Yankee captain with multiple rings as a player and coach

-The first African-American manager in this town and

-One of "our guys" (New York) who kept failing at getting 11 different managerial jobs through the years, all those different times can't just be because Willie doesn't interview well or was low balled according to many in the media

would be calling for the guy's head quite vociferously. But for whatever reason Willie gets a pass that guys with stronger resumes don't get.

Very true. And let's not forget, he turned the Cincinnatti Reds down when they offered him a job, and in the past, refused to manage in the minor leagues, saying his tenure with the Yankees was enough.

Here is a "short list" of names that I came up with. Not an advocation of anyone but just names that popped in my head after brainstorming it.

-Bobby Valentine
-Tony Pena
-Grady Little
