| Well it's a good thing, since this is pretty much all that they have of Bill Shea at Shea right now ![]() Just his HOF bust and a picture of him in the lobby at one of his opening day appearances. And it's about time as well! |

I'm sure an informal poll of people at Shea would illicit responses ranging from some long dead politician or a Robert Moses type to some guy killed in a war to some old empty suit Met board member back in the day. And good luck finding the aforementioned bust and picture in the Diamond Club Closet...errr Lobby, most people without Diamond Club tickets probably don't even know the HOF exists. And even if you do, the photos in the lobby and the busts tell NOTHING about who the HOFers are. Why is this Joan Payson person in the Hall? Who is this William Shea, I know he is connected to the stadium, but who was he? Not to mention the photos have no "captions" so someone who doesn't know any of them is SOL if they ask someone else who doesn't know. "Gee who is that guy pop?" (kid pointing to Cleon Jones' photo) "Uhhh, I don't know, Ed Charles I think." "Okay how about him?" (points to Ed Kranepool's photo) "Ummmm I think Dave Kingman? He is in the Mets Hall of Fame right. Has to be."

I know that's not why this thread was started. William Shea HAS been honored by having the stadium named after him. That name will never be forgotten by generations of Mets fans. But the bottom line is young Mets fans will get very little out of the the current Mets HOF. Hopefully, that will be corrected within the walls of Citifield.

| Thank God. I was afraid Wilpon was gonna honor Charlie Ebbets.

Look I'm not suggesting going the Yankee route and retiring numbers, but just because the Mets only had one real All-Time Great baseball legend play most of his career as a Met doesn't mean you don't honor the team's great performers over the years. Looking at the list of players, okay I agree with Kranepool, Staub, and to a lesser exent Agee, Harrelson and Grote, but are you saying Wilson, Carter, Hernandez, Jones and Koosman shouldn't be in there because they aren't Tom Seaver?

And the Mets found a place to squeeze a giant team store right behind home plate, I'm sure they would have found a suitable place if they tried.

I am not saying a nice Mets HOF wouldn't be nice but I am not going to get on the Mets case for not having some elaborate set up for Seaver and then a bunch of coke heads who never lived up to expectations.

| I agree that the Mets history is pretty crappy when it comes to having Mets HOF worthy players. However, Seaver, Doc, Straw, Keith, Kooz, McGraw, Piazza, Carter, Mookie as well Gil Hodges and perhaps Rube Walker; and broadcast wing with Kiner, Murphy, Nelson... There IS some good stuff there that deserves to be honored moving forward. |
