Default Mets interested in Harden

According to SF chronicle.

I would assume that would mean FMart and Pelfrey going the other way for a guy who is incredible but damaged goods.

Martinez is going nowhere, at all, at least not for Harden.

Martinez is the only guy that other teams would want, and he doesn't fit the Beane profile at all. Harden is not coming here!

I would be worried that the phillies could throw something together to get him. That would be a big problem with him and Hamels at the top of that rotation.

Why would Harden's value stay that high even though he has not performed (due to incessant injury) while Pelfrey's value plummets due to his own lack of performance?

It would llikely require the emptying of the B-Mets roster, which I am not in favor of at all.

depends on whom the other end of the phone is, lets not forget Harden has not been able to stay on the mound in three years, upside or not, he is not struggling to pitch in the major leagues, he is struggling to pitch.

Exactly.

It would be interesting to see if he gets to free agency. If healthy he would command a huge contract. If questionable I could see him easily getting Meche like money.

Um, how about the fact that Harden has actually pitched very good in the ML's when healthy and Pelfrey has gotten shellacked.

I'd leave well enough alone, but Beane has made many a deal where he goes deep into a teams system, A ball level for multiple players. I have had my difference of opinion with his tabbed "brilliance" but he is a gambler and gambles well.

I would not be surprised if at a point early in the season, not yet though, would be willing to peak at packages that included a few A ball prospets and a guy like Niese.

But as I said, I'd prefer to leave well enough alone at the moment.

agreed in principal, but Harden is not like say Beckett with blister problems he far more likely at this point to never amount to anything

No team is dumb enough to trade Fernando for Harden. but I'd damn well hope Omar is at least listening after seeing the great many turd buckets thrown our way over the years for the #5 slot. To have a guy like him is worth the risk so long as you don't lose your TOP prospect. Only proven stars should be traded for your best players. Omar knows this so it'd be interesting to see if Pelfrey +++ can get it done.

I'm not calling Harden Cy Young.

But, the post was comparing Harden's value to Pelfrey's. I'll take the often injured guy who's shown he's pretty good on the ML level when healthy over the kid who hasn't shown anything substantial on the Ml level up to this point.

* That's not to say I'm calling for a Harden trade

If the Mets are willing to trade for a damaged goods pitcher, why not go for Zito?

He wouldn't cost much talent-wise, SF would just HAVE TO pick up a big part of the tab, and if anybody can get him to pitch like he used to, it's Peterson.

SF could pick up 30 mil of that deal and I still wouldn't want him at this point.
