| Enter Sandy-Man | Mets Merized Online Seems like this article summarizes the full picture well.. I am of the opinion Sandy was brought in to stabilize upper management..whether he was fully aware how poor Wilpons were when he took job..debatable..but if if he did..people may question as to why he took job..maybe he thought if he can make lemonade out of urine..he will be perceived as genius..and prove that in his mind one can win with a sub 100 mil payroll in ny..?? Problem is..not at 50 mil.. and I also still question if he has full autonomy as depicted with Jeffy in the picture as much as he is with the rubberband over wallet..perhaps he does..IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT..

| Senior Member | Sandy was in charge of vetting all Latin prospects, and investigating those who were suspected of lying about their ages before, when he was sent to the Mets. Both seem like impossible and thankless jobs, but I would rather tackle the Mets than a whole bunch of countries... I do believe he was lied to at least to a certain extent, because the Wilpon's are liars. Though I'm sure they'd prefer we refer to the lies as "changing realities," instead...

| And that "theoretically" assumed Wright's $16 mill option, rather than $8 mill extension AND Dickey's $6 mill option, rather than some $1.5 mill scrub. Ergo, Plandy Planderson SHOULD HAVE - drumroll please - $22.5 MILLION in available cash. Lying FUCKER.

| The fans have a right to be critical of the lack of spending but you have to like the building blocks that consist of Harvey, Niese, Wheeler, Mejia, Familia, Syndergaard, Fulmer, Montero and Tapia. When was the last time the Mets that many talented young arms? Offensively, Wright is signed long term and if Ike Davis, Reuben Tejada, Wilmer Flores and Travis d'Arnaud continue to play well- the Mets will still suck in 2013 but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

| Tell me the last time they (Mets) had as much pitching depth in the minors? Mid 80's?

I don't know what the Mets have in terms of outfielders and neither does anybody else. The current outfield could be a huge disapointment but it may surprise some people. I think Duda and Nieuwenhuis are better than expected. I predict that Cowgill and Baxter are useful.

| We'll have to see now won't we? wait until Duda and Nieuwenhuis prove to be a lot better than orginally thought and the Mets front office will receive the recognition they deserve in a couple of years.

They've had similar talent before (mid 2000s saw a ton of good arms get traded and/or turn to busts - Kazmir, Peterson, Humber, Gaby Hernandez, Guerra, Pelfrey, Bannister, etc) and let it get away from them either by cutting corners or just bad luck....spending money doesn't always mean just throwing out huge contracts to MLers either....they haven't spent money organization WIDE...thats the scary part of all this. I'd feel a lot better about the Mets future right now if they were at least taking some of this money saved and putting it towards the rebuilding project through the minors/scouting/drafting, but right now its all just going to the banks.....and if that doesn't change, even this promising collection of kids aren't going to have the support they need to succeed. | |
