Default Mets Lose $70 Million in 2011, Attendance Down 7%

It will only get worse before it gets better, what are the Wilpons clinging onto? The sale price will only get lower and lower? I wonder what their approval rating is. I haven't met one fan who likes them.

Lol, they hired a dream team FO to not make a winning club, but to cut corners.

Genious.

Classic Mets.

I've gone weeks without watching a game the last few years, it's not going to take much for me to call it quits entirely. I can wait out the Wilpon's...which is all anyone can do at this point.

This team is not doing a damn thing as long as those ponzi scheming bastards hold on to the team like a drowning man holds on to a life preserver.

It's funny how easy it becomes. I haven't watched a full game in three years. I couldn't even root against the Yankees this year, at least they try and win.

I haven't given less of a **** about the Mets ever I think.. Wilpon can keep cutting, by the time he's done this team is going to need 30 years to repair the damage of lost fans.

Not to worry, Selig say they'll be fine!

Colour me stunned.

MLB commissioner Bud Selig confident Mets finances, Fred Wilpon 'making good progress' in recovery

The problem with the Mets is they think "Oh we'll save some cash cut payroll" Then they cut payroll and save themselves say 20 million, then go out, put a turd of a team on the field, and lose 70 million. Perhaps a little more investment in putting a better team on the field and they wouldn't be seeing such heavy losses, but the longer it goes on the worse it will be the Mets. I dunno how Fred is going to get out of financial purgatory by losing money with the Mets every year.

Yeah, the Mets have stabilized at $250 million less than they were worth three years ago. I'm sick of the NFL and it's endless hype, but no way does Goodell allow that to happen to one of it's franchises, let alone one in the country's biggest market...

It's disappointing that the players association has been silent on this too, and I'm not sure why. Surely they know that the Mets and Dodgers hemorrhaging money is really bad for them...

The odd thing about the Mets is that they are misreading the cause of their problems. It isn't as if this team didn't spend money on FA's. It's that they spent money on the wrong FA's. The problem with cutting payroll now is that the quality of the product will likely suffer.

Sure, they can save $30 million on payroll next year. But if the team is out of the pennant race by the All Star Break, how are they going to turn a profit? Attendance could go even lower and they will lose another $70 million.

This organization is in real financial peril. Maybe the plan is to hang on until the minor leagues yields some interesting players, but I don't believe they have the reserves to do that. By all accounts, they're in debt up to their necks and the franchise isn't self-sustaining.

I give them one more year before they sell.

The Wilpons probably make a lot of money from SNY, so they may just go with a low payroll even if attendance goes down. It will probably take a long time if ever before attendance drops to late 70's levels when they were drawing 700,000.

At this point it is impossible to convince anyone that the Wilporns have any interest in actually winning.

Who will come watch the games next year after the Mets lose another home grown talent(batting champ) in Reyes? Attendance will be under 1 mil next year, Wilpons are a disaster. They should of sold the team to Doubleday.
