Derek Lowe is (obviously) better then Perez. But, it's not like he was tearing it up in ALT prior to his first couple starts this year. 4+ ERA, 1.35+ WHiP both year. He's also being paid $15 mil per year through next year.

The problem with your Bay/Holliday comment is their contracts. I don't think there's a person on the planet who'd argue that Holliday is the better player. Yes, Bay stinks right now. But, 4 years vs. 7 years was the reason they went with Bay over Holliday. Not, because of a $1 mil difference in their per year salaries.

Ding Ding ding! In a soft town, hitting with Pujols.... I tend to doubt Holliday would be doing much better than Bay for 2x the money here in NY.

The only thing you can say about Bay is, his struggles at the plate have just been there. He's played great D and if you believe the players he's tremendous in the clubhouse. Fluke or not, the team has been much better with him on the field than not this year and last.....and for whatever reason he hits at Citi just not at all on the road....

Rey Ordonez and Doug Flynn were great on defense and sucked hitting as well! ... The difference is that they were middle IFs batting 9th, while Bay is a corner OF expected to bat in the middle of the order to the tune of 30/100.... Bay SUCKS. End. Of. Discussion.

Actually it's 600 plate appearances in 2013 or 500 PA's in both 2012 and 2013 (not a total 1000) from what I remember.

Holliday's contract also has an option year worth another $17 mil with a top 10 MVP finish in 2016 or a $1 mil buyout.

He did defer $2 mil annually with no interest that gets paid for 10 years starting in 2020.
