Derek Lowe is (obviously) better then Perez. But, it's not like he was tearing it up in ALT prior to his first couple starts this year. 4+ ERA, 1.35+ WHiP both year. He's also being paid $15 mil per year through next year.

The problem with your Bay/Holliday comment is their contracts. I don't think there's a person on the planet who'd argue that Holliday is the better player. Yes, Bay stinks right now. But, 4 years vs. 7 years was the reason they went with Bay over Holliday. Not, because of a $1 mil difference in their per year salaries.

Except Holliday would of course suck monkey balls if he came to the Mets and Bay would be bopping 30+ HRs somewhere else. This is life... Mets fans get boned either way. There is zero chance that Holliday would be putting those numbers up if he was here... ZERO

Ding Ding ding! In a soft town, hitting with Pujols.... I tend to doubt Holliday would be doing much better than Bay for 2x the money here in NY.

The only thing you can say about Bay is, his struggles at the plate have just been there. He's played great D and if you believe the players he's tremendous in the clubhouse. Fluke or not, the team has been much better with him on the field than not this year and last.....and for whatever reason he hits at Citi just not at all on the road....

Rey Ordonez and Doug Flynn were great on defense and sucked hitting as well! ... The difference is that they were middle IFs batting 9th, while Bay is a corner OF expected to bat in the middle of the order to the tune of 30/100.... Bay SUCKS. End. Of. Discussion.

Oh, and Bay has an option - supposedly it's easily obtainable - that will make his package - hee hee! - worth 5/80 mill.

For a player that the fans really didn't even want...

Actually - it's kind of ironic, as the Mets signed Bay right as they were doing the season ticket packages to try to get a bump in interest/sales/etc. How's that working out for you, Mr. Wilpon?

He needs 1,000 plate appearances in 2012-2013, or 500 in 2013. Hard to imagine he gets that without some serious improvement...

And anyone notice that Justin Morneau is hitting .231/.299/.328?

I know concussions are no joke, but you start to wonder if the chicken or the egg comes first here. If this were a hip thing like Delgado had I would be a lot more optimistic that a breakout is possible, but there's a great chance it's more than physical...

His slide into 2nd the other day was all the proof I needed but if you suck you suck no matter what the excuses are.

Well, I'm pretty sure the Mets policy of putting players with concussions on long plane rides shortly after didn't help. Church was a 4th OF at best, but he fell off the face of the earth by the time the staff was done with him too...

And totally off topic. SC, your Johnie's might be losing one of their big B-ball recruits. A lefty who works low to mid 90's sounds like a great pick if you're willing to pay over slot...

Actually it's 600 plate appearances in 2013 or 500 PA's in both 2012 and 2013 (not a total 1000) from what I remember.

Holliday's contract also has an option year worth another $17 mil with a top 10 MVP finish in 2016 or a $1 mil buyout.

He did defer $2 mil annually with no interest that gets paid for 10 years starting in 2020.

That's interesting and could explain why Lavin is recruiting more players then he has available scholarships.
