| No he didn't. Cora got a one year deal for one million dollars. How is that more? Because he has incentives that kick in after 110 starts? I doubt he hits the performance bonuses needed for the incentives or option year to kick in. |

| Even if, say the guy returns healthy pitches good, having him this year on the short term deal may give you leverage to get a deal done after, and if he craps out, 1.5 million is chump change.

| Super Moderator | We should know better by now. The second Omar made signing this clown his first order of business... it would become a very long winter. I'm still willing to be that Cora would STILL be available today, and the Mets could have simply extended him a camp invite, which is what his career is worth at this point, IMO. Quote:

| What a joke. Even if the Mets held their water until the All Star break, Bedard could bring fans in the seats with his electric stuff, and we could have an ace for half a season. A joke. |

| The broader point holds, that the Mets would have been better off spending what little they wanted to spend taking a few cheap risks as opposed to overpaying for retread bench players, and the broader point is expressed well below: MetsBlog.com – Chat: with Mayo, Hyde & Meyers on Mets & Draft "You’ll notice the Royals and Pirates have been two of the biggest spenders in the last couple of years, giving seven-figure bonuses to kids in rounds three through 10. Instead, the Mets will stick to slot in those rounds and spend $2 million on Alex Cora. It’s a joke, and shows a complete lack of understanding of value on the part of the Mets."

The part about the Pirates is even more damming for the Mets though, because Selig's old slot enforcer is running their system right now, and he doesn't hesitate to break it. They actually tried an interesting philosophy last year, picking a safe-slot guy at #2, then going over slot in later rounds. It will be interesting to see how it plays out for them...

| Hudson is signed... 1 year $5 Million... Twins cannot offer arbitration if he is a Type A after the season... It's amazing how the Mets are so dead out of money... With the payroll at $120 Million... Just like I figured, a $20Million payroll drop.
