| Suzuki Jeter Mauer Teixeira Bay Hamilton Young Hill Halladay Ramirez Utley Pujols Braun Ibanez Wright Victorino Molina Lincecum Prediction: Not sure why any Mets fan would watch this game since they don't have a prayer of making the playoffs, let alone the World Series, but, Johan will come in to pitch the 3rd, give up 7 runs. The NL will come back to grab a lead in the 9th, only to allow K-Rod to blow it. Meanwhile, Wright will become the first player in the All Star Game history to strikeout 5 times. Why so pessimistic? They can't possibly do any worse and if I'm wrong, it's a pleasant surprise. All kidding aside, if Manuel (Charlie, that is) puts Hoffman in the 9th for the save again, he should be banned from managing in any capacity again for life, including Little League.

| Side bet time. The game goes on the air at 8 pm ET. So I'm setting the over/under for actual time of first pitch at 8:45. I'm taking over.

| Senior Member | There wasn't much reason to watch it when the Mets were running all over the NL either. This one counts? Blah, blah, blah... Let's take a couple of weeks off and play the WBC now, or at least part of it. You know, REALLY give the fans something to watch. You could even give home field in the Caribbean World Series to the team that comes in first between the DR, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. What a gimmick that would be! |

| It is, you're right, but I was just wondering out loud why it wasn't Musial or Gibson... I mean, in San Francisco they had Mays and in Boston they had Williams in the middle of their respective ceremonies. Musial is not in the greatest of health (but neither were either of those two guys) and you'd think they'd want to do something epic for the greatest Cardinal ever and one of the greatest ball players ever. |

There was an article in the past week's Mpls Star-Trib, a huge fluff piece, on Joe Mauer, running the whole "hometown hero" angle, etc. In the middle was stashed a couple of paragraphs about Twins management already fearing that after his contract is up in 2010 that they'll have trouble resigning him, because he has two goals: 1) hit .400 and 2) win a World Series. My first immediate thought: "Man, it would be great to see the Mets sign a catcher of that caliber again." My second immeditate thought: "Oh, wait, he wants to go to a winning team."
