If Omar isn't landing top 5 talents each year internationally he basically serves no value.

Cuban pitcher Chapman defects | MLB.com: News

Just watching the video on this kid. Despite his record in the Cuban league...he is FILTHY.

Will Omar even BOTHER to look at this kid? If he as 43 with a bad foot, Omar would give him a 2 year deal!

Not to mention every one that has signed, never lived up to expectations.

El Duque had some great post season runs, but only ever made 30 starts or won over 12 games once in his career.

Soler... lol

José Contreras has had 1, maybe 2 good years in 8 seasons

Livan Hernandez is probably the best starter to come out of there and while he's had a very solid ML career was there ever a stretch of time where he was worth 10 mil per over 4 years?

Of course when you give 3/36 to Oliver Perez maybe it is worth the risk....

Eh, I'm not going to get too excited for the reasons Hat cited.

In regards to Omar's reasons for the huge 'latin flavour' of the Mets as being the huge pipeline of young latin talent it was going to open for the Mets, it's nice to see him actually sign some young latin talent at long last.

Sounds like this kid is going to sign with the Yankees... It's going to be the team willing to shell out the most $$$$$... And it will not be the Metsies...

Damn his daddy is living the high life in prison, wonder how much he pays the guards for this:

ESPN

will feature Baseball expert Ernesto Jerez and a crew who were given access for two days into the Penitenciaria General de Venezuela, the maximum security prison in San Juan de los Morros, where Urbina is currently incarcerated.

Part one will have Urbina describe his life behind bars and his hope for regaining freedom.

Part two shows Urbinas´ 10 x 6 cell, fitted with a color television, a small refrigerator

and a laptop computer, as well as footage of him playing on a prison basketball league team.

The Mets finally ponied up more than a million for the first time since F-Mart. If they don't do the same for Matz (top pick), I quit...

They've also been linked to SS Jairo Kelly and OF Max Kepler-Rozycki, though I've not heard anything on either going anywhere yet. Kelly is ranked #24 according to BA, while Kepler-Rozycki is a German they've been drooling over. He'll probably get over $1 million, which I'm sure will be a record for a European player...

Sano may sign with PIT or MIN...

Sanchez, a C, already signed today with the Yankees ($3M bonus)...

Urbina comes in at #8 on the list from Baseball America.
By the way, those rankings are based on projected signing bonuses NOT projected talent. Of course, there is some correlation between the two, but it is not exact.

The same Dice K who is 1-5 with an ERA over 8 and a WHIP over 2? Man, I sure do wish the Mets signed him to a 52 million dollar deal after spending 51 million just for the right to negotiate with him. GREAT deal there!
