How sad for us met fans we need to bring back a manager who never brought us to the promise land, like for some reason making it to the world series and losing 4 games to 1 is some ****ing accomplishment.

What ever happned to the idea of having Joey Cora manage this team? Wasn't he once a manager in the Mets minor league system before he became Guillen's bench coach?

I keep hearing about how both he and Alex will make great managers one day. Well, Alex hasn't ended his playing career yet. Why not bring his big brother over?

The Mets this year are beyond the point where a managerial change is going to make any difference. As much as I despised Steamboat Willie, the end of last year and this season has proven that it isn't the manager that is the problem. The failures on this team are clearly on the shoulders of Omar, the owners, the scouts and the medical staff. There needs to be a cleaning house within this organization, or it will continue to be the laughing stock of baseball. But you know it won't happen, as they continue to try and "fix" problems by using bubble gum and duct tape. You've heard of the little engine that could? Well, the Mets are the big engine that couldn't.

The Mets are pathetic from top to bottom, and I don't see any positive signs in the near future.

I know I've said this enough that folks are probably sick of it, but the team collapses 2 years in a row after a kick in the nuts playoff loss in 06 and whose gone?

The Manager and Pitching coach.....pretty much everyone else from the coaches - Manual, Alomar, Hojo -- to the GMs office - Omar and his right hand Tony B -- to the "core" players -- are still around.

Last year was the perfect opportunity to clean house, instead they blamed it on the bullpen. This year, my fingers are just crossed that they don't make any kind of a run. If this team even finishes .500 or better, everything will be chalked up to injuries and they'll just fire a coach or something.

I know the Wilpons love Omar, but if this team crashes and burns and ends up 4th in the division I dont think even they can just let things skate by.

So only Davey Johnson qualifies then? The teams he had were about a million times better and more talented than the ones Valentine did...

All of the Bobby V lovers seem to forget just how frustrating he was as a manager. Valentine had a different line-up for each day of hte week. For those complaining that Murphy and Evans aren't getting enough time, Valentine would be doing the same. He played "by his gut" more than any manager the Mets have had in 30 years. He was the ultimate day-to-day manager.

Yes, he got alot out of a bunch of nobodies. Yes he got us to the World Series. But he also failed in spots where a good manager would not. I know things suck now, but pining for Bobby V is NOT going to fix the current situation. The only way bringing Valentine back makes sense is if you can Omar as well and give Bobby V full control of the team.

Bobby V knew the team, he knew the players. They fought for him. I agree though, he would not be of much use under Omar...I think he wouldn't agree to come back here without a partner, or even himself in the GM role.

Bobby V only faltered when he became more interested in families suffering after 9/11 than the games - can't fault him there.

The idea that only WS champ managers should qualify is insane.

I do agree that there is no point in bringing in someone like Bobby until Minaya is gone - but then there is little point in bringing anyone in until Minaya is gone.

I honestly dont believe Valentine could manage the type of players most people here always seem to want to bring in. He'd rather have a team of scrubs....

I find it interesting that a lot of the folks pining for Bobby V were the same ones wondering why they didnt sign Dunn and were sticking guys like Murphy and Church in the OF. Why they were happy with guys like Tim Redding and Livan in the rotation. Bitching about Tatis playing every day. Those are all Bobby V moves. Now maybe he would get more out of them than the joker, but they'd still be in and out of the lineup every day.

Its why I always laughed at those V to the Yankees rumors....that team would turn on him in about 30 seconds.

exactly. The Mets spent money on 2002 and brought in a former all star team (with former being the key word). We all know how well that turned out.

Plus, Bobby V was working with the likes of Un, Lobin, the Senator, the white Francos, Dolphin Face, Mopey and Turk and Cook. Lets see how well he'd work with the Latin Kings.
