Default More Minaya Genious regarding the 'pen

METS WON'T 'GUARANTEE' BIG NAME FOR 'PEN - New York Post

Quote:
Though GM Omar Minaya spoke with the agent for former Brave Will Ohman this week, a person familiar with the club's plans said the Mets don't want to stifle bullpen competition in spring training by adding a guaranteed contract.

That means the Mets aren't likely to pursue Ohman, who appears headed back to Atlanta, or another proven lefty reliever such as ex-Dodger Joe Beimel to fill the final spot in the bullpen.

"You like to leave at least one spot for guys to fight over," the source said. "Nobody wants to come to camp knowing their only competing for Triple-A spots."
So.... He doesn't want to bring in someone good, because it'll stop the crap from competing to be crap on the major league roster?

He knows in this market he doesn't have to keep giving out 3 and 4 year contracts right? And that the middle inning guys are basically the same as the crap corps from last season?

You want to really laugh? Now read it:

What does that even MEAN?

Does anyone read the crap that this guy says and think to themselves, "huh, maybe a Major League GM SHOULD have at least a junior college education..."?

Every, EVERY time Minaya tries to say something thoughtful or profound he comes off as the buffoon that intelligent fans know him to be.

He's a ****ing retard. Affirmative action has KILLED this organization.

What is so hard to understand?? He wants ALL the CRAP to COMPETE/ASPIRE to BE BETTER CRAP..if you bring in NON-CRAP...that he has to PAY MORE..then the CRAP that is CRAP..even if it is BETTER then the CRAP he has...then its OK b/c they COMPETED and EARNED the RIGHT to be the BEST CRAP on the ROSTER..get it?

That about sums it up, and its one of the reasons why Omar should have been gone a long time ago.

I can't wait to see the competition for the second loogy between Fossum and De La Santos. I wonder which scrub will win it? I personally rather just go with one loogy if those two are the guys competiting for a spot in the pen.

As I've said, I think Omar still reads too many press clippings from 2006. The "throw sh!t at a wall and see if it sticks" GM style really hasn't worked since then.

He also seems to think it's the same team of '06 and that one or two tweaks each offseason will turn it back into that same scenario of them rampaging through the league until the playoffs. He forgets that season was the perfect storm of getting lucky with guys like Valentin, Chavez and Oliver (not Perez), along with the rest of the league being comparitively weak. As you say, because he got a lot of praise for hitting gold with reclamation projects (not that it was all luck), he thinks he has the Midas touch with any old bum and keeps trying to fuel that image by trying over and over again.

I'm pretty sure the thing to do is to put the best team out there that you can possibly assemble within your means. Is Ohman that great? he was ok the last 2 years. he's not koufax. i dont know if i agree with creating competition, i dont know what that really does to motivate PRO ATHLETES!

I'm almost certain freddy garcia will win the 5ht spot. they will cite his experience and "winning" record and hand him the job, even if he stinks up the place during ST.

my prediction for the P staff.

SP: Johan, Maine, Perez, Pelfrey, Garcia
Pen: Krod, Putz, Duaner, Feliciano, Green, Stokes, Redding.

I don't necessarily believe green and stokes are "locks", so therefore, if Ohman is aboard, green or stokes could go to AAA.

I'm also trying to piece together the AAA pitching staff, which I assume has Niese, Armas Jr, Figueroa, slated for the rotation, possibly parnell, and kunz, muniz, robertson, in the pen there....

Stokes doesn't have any options left so he can't be sent down. Green does have options left but I'm pretty sure he's a lock for the bullpen.

So... he's saying competition is good when it justifies what he's decided to do already.

The more excuses and crap I read, the happier I am that I passed on season tickets.

Remember when I defended this organization? Forget it.
