| When you have Orlando Hudson and another name, that because of the $hitty market, in Orlando Cabrera(rumored to be considering shifting to 2b inorder to get a job)STILL LOOKING for a job...the 2rd tier backups ala Grudz and Durham /Aurila should be to the point of accepting practically anything at this point especially with the $$ becoming harder to come by..and if the Mets have to sub for an inevitable bum Craptillo and have shown a willingness to allow an IF with little experience to man the position(SEE Valentin)..then I see no reason they shouldn't give the job to an aurilia type if need be..heck..in an emergency..they SHOULD be letting Murphy give it a crack too in ST...but thats barking up the wrong tree around here..

They did take the best available starter (Vineyard) right after Kunz too. Unfortunately he seems to have fallen off the face of the earth...

| Gulped up Important innings? Dessens hasn't gotten anyone out in years and years. The writer must have fallen asleep when Dessens was pitching.

| METS WON'T 'GUARANTEE' BIG NAME FOR 'PEN - New York Post Hey, the Mets don't need a proven reliever in the bullpen. They figure, if they sign someone who has proven to be successful at their craft, there won't be any reason for the other pieces of career-failed crap they signed to minor league deals to 'compete' in spring training. That is their actual philosophy. With THIS bullpen, which has failed them miserably over the past two seasons, costing them easy playoff appearances. How can a plan like that possibly fail? This effing team's management is hilarious.

Lets face it, in 2006 they brought in mostly guys who were unheard of and/or highly mediocre. Oliver, Bradford, Feliciano...these were all pretty much scrap heap guys. Sanchez was a trade that got little fan fare and he was expected to be a solid guy for middle relief but hardly what he turned into. However after watching the last 2 seasons how they can try to justify sitting on their hands now is an absolute joke.

| Super Moderator | I can understand the money excuse for punking out on trying to get Manny, but you really have to be alarmed when they are even nickel and diming important spots on the team, that probably will not cost (such as a real 2B, or additional pen arm) much. And to follow what Hat posted, Omar still thinks he could live off his good luck from 2006. The "throw sh!t at wall and see if it sticks" plan hasn't worked for two years now... for the bench AND the pen. 85 wins. |

| Well, let's be fair. It's not like JJ Putz could get INJURED or anything, which would pretty much decimate the pen to 2007/2008 levels all over again. They're banking on a guy that had some major injury concerns last season pretty hard.
