Default CitiField likened to the Grand Canyon

Citi Field: Where Homeruns Go To*Die - Amazin' Avenue

Quote:
Citi Field, the new ballpark for the New York Mets, is poised to become MLB's new Grand Canyon. City Field is a vast, cool weather, sea-level stadium, and those factors will have a hugely negative impact on home runs.

*snip*

Johan Santana and the rest of the Mets pitching staff will like the new park, but the Mets' front office should sign their power hitters now, before the word gets out. In spring 2009, baseball fans are going to get a live demonstration of what happens when a team sets out to design a pitcher's park, and overdoes it.

"Because the overhead satellite photos show Shea's fence in straightaway center to be, in reality, about 408 feet from home plate, and the Citi Field prints show the corresponding dimension to be about 410 feet. "

Form a satellite picture he's getting this? And the team NEVER measured this? EVER???!!??

Sorry.....Ill trust HOK over this nimrod.

They wanted to build a park that could hold Carlos Beltran. When he's fielding.

Copper Canyon might be more appropriate.

They can always move the fences in later, if they want to...

I'm glad they did it this way, rather than building it too small from the beginning.

Agreed. The larger field will also serve to benefit the Mets as long as their MO remains speed and defense.

The Mets have exactly one dude who fits that description, and that's Beltran (Reyes was no great shakes with the glove last year). Not much of an MO.

Will be comforting to see inexperienced OF's in Murphy/tatis/Evans patrolling cavernous OF as well..

Looking that those strange wall angles triple hitters are going to love the place.

I can see it now, we lose the division on a Victorino inside the park home run from a crazy bounce off the wall.

I dont see how it is possible that anyone can be an expert on this topic, since..... not one single inning has been played there. I'm going to reserve judgement until a few games have been played.

Speaking of speed, I hope we see a little more aggressiveness from Wright in the stolen base department this coming year.

Someone should tell Lowe that this might be a great way for him to still be in a position to make good money when his three year deal is up...
