Default Fix Wright For 2009 Article

Has anyone read the Buster Olney insider article on espn.com? It talks about how Wright cannot handle high pressure situations in NY. Anybody read this and give us some insight? Thanks

I have been somewhat worried that perhaps Wright had been pressing too much this past season, trying to make up for the collapse in 2007. He did quite fine in '07 from what I recall.

Basically he says Wright puts too much pressure on himself. He recommends or suggests that he should go see a sports shrink like Smoltz and Matt Garza did. He also says the bullpen was the big problem, but I don't think that makes for a sexy article. Wright's career numbers in clutch situations aren't mentioned, but they rarely are...

I think Wright was pressing and slumping at the wrong time this year.

End of story.

Its amazing the outcry about David Wright. The real issue is Omar and all the media outlets are giving him a free pass, because he gives them information. How is it about the core? Its the bullpen and the non-core which completely sucked. Chase Utley had a pretty bad second half. Rollins had a down year. Yet their core delivers? No. Its because the GM got players like Victorino & Werth & fixed the bullpen by getting Lidge.

Wright has been pressing tho Randy. Furthermore, he needs to be that leader of this team now.

Speaking of Werth, I'd love to see the Mets pry him from the Phillies.

Yes he did - this year. But the real problem is Minaya - not him. His protection on Sunday was Nick Evans and Ramon Martinez.

Wright's fine. Honestly, his only flaw is that he gives a shiot too much, putting added pressure on him because the majority of the team was choking their way out of a third consecutive playoff birth.

Knowing our luck, he will quickly become Werth-less

I think the pressure would've been much less if they did not think a 5 run lead was imperative going into every ninth inning.

Gee... I can't believe Wright wasn't "protected" into hitting better in big spots with Beltran and Delgado behind him. And Beltran, with Delgado. Same thing. Hard to fathom. It's almost like "protection" is complete bullsh*t.

Why do I have the feeling there will be more Hispanic players over 30 on the Mets next year.
