Don't worry, we've got El Duque.

Holy jeebus....forget bringing back Perez then. He'll demand 6/75 and get it from someone if Lohse can get that kind of cheese.

Lohse pitched better than Perez, but it wasn't in NY, so in Boras' world that means you multiply Lohse's ERA by 2 and judge Ollie's salary from there.

This year yes....however Lohse is also 30, not a lefty, and this was his first season with an era below about 4.50.

Perez will get 80 million.

Hopefully not from the Mets. I'd rather have a steady 13-10 pitcher in here than Perez and his bipolar 15 wins.

I'd rather overpay for a talented lefty who CAN throw a no hitter any given day (unless he walks 44) than a no talent middle teir career loser who will save $30m over a few years.

Perez is flaky and not a sure thing, I am well aware of this. But he also has more impact ability than most pitchers on the market, is 27 and won't have the pressure of living up to a contract after this year. I say at least make an offer.

Sometimes, it's best to overpay on real talent and regret it later than it is to invest anything in mediocrity.

Perez isn't far enough from being a mediocrity himself that I'd offer anything close to what he's probably going to get. Offer arbitration, hopefully draft the next David Wright (and double hopefully this one will be able to get a runner home from 3rd with nobody out) and watch Ollie's schizophrenia manifest itself every five days elsewhere.

Absolutely. Someone will sign him for big money, and hopefully the mets use their pick wisely to get someone useful.

I would be a lot less inclined to offer Perez if he's not a type A, which is possible in a pretty good free agent year for pitchers. If he's a type A it's a no-brainer, and hopefully he goes somewhere out of the top 15. The Mets probably won't have a first round pick next year, but they've landed in Baseball purgatory, not good enough for the playoffs but too good for a protected pick...

He's gotta be a Type A.

When do the categories get posted?

Not sure, but players can't file until after the WS. I could see these guys being ahead of Perez though. Even with his decent seasons the last two years, he's still 25-28 over the last three years, with a 5.02 ERA in only 392 innings. The arbiter that gave him seven million is obviously an idiot, but he doesn't decide these things...

Derek Lowe (and his agent) have got to be doing cartwheels over this contract. Lowe is a hall of famer compared to Lohse. Plus he's got a chance to cash in even more with another big October. I am hoping the Mets make a run at Lowe this offseason.

Perfect 4th starter, IMO. Someone who really eats innings, and effective at the same time.

I don't think CC or Sheets are coming here. If anything, Sheets is probably the more realistic of the two, but his injury history is scary.
