Agreed. He didnt get it last year either, so why should we expect him to get it now ? As you said, this team is (pretty much) doomed with Omar the clown calling the shots.

Remember when we were so excited when he became the GM ? We were all duped.

Can I play devil's advocate here? Castillo is about 14 months away from being considered a plausible leadoff man and second baseman. While I completely agree that he looked horrible in 2008 and I definitely hope that Murphy earns the second base job in 2009 with Castillo dmped somewhere else, it is not absolutely impossible that a healthy Castillo can rebound somewhat.

In addition, even Omar is not stupid enough to rip his trade bait to the media. We'll know by his actions, not his words, how Omar will address where Castillo and Murphy fit in next year. As it stands, with there being some question of whether Murphy can really play second base or whether he can continue his great hitting, there are worse fallback options than hoping Castillo rebounds, especially if the alternative is just releasing him. If Omar puts too much faith in Castillo or uses him to block a ready Murphy, I'll rip Omar for the decision along with the rest of you.

I wouldn't mind a Mark Loretta-type all purpose IF to be Murphy's backup/insurance. Perhaps Tatis (who at least has earned first dibs at a bench spot in ST) can play some 2B?

I hear ya GG, but I can't bring myself to entertaining ANY idea of Gimps being on this team next year. He's got to go. If a trade for someone like Eric Byrnes (as discussed in another thread) ever presents itself, and the D'Backs want Gimps, you do the deal, turn around, and don't look back.

As I said before, they will either have to eat Castillo's salary or take similar contract in return. Hopefully, all Omar was doing was hyping up Castillo to make him look more appealing to potential trade partners... If Omar really does feel this way (and turns out he has NO intention of getting rid of Castillo), then he is an a$$hole.

I still believe that there's a decent chance Castillo can go hit .270 with a .360 OB% along with decent defense.....however the thing you're missing here is the bigger problem IMO. Castillo's attitude.

People can ***** about Delgado all they want, but I believe Castillo is a bigger club house cancer and thats a bigger reason to ditch his ass than his lack of production.

What has Castillo done to earn a reputation as a cancer? I know that's a popular MOFO viewpoint, but what has he done that's negative? I don't agree that the September 2007 collapse can be attributed to him (a view I've seen others express).
