I just wanted to remind many of us Mets fans that even though the Mets might not make the playoffs thia year, we have to see the brighter picture here. 1) We're not suffering through a collapse like last year. 2) The Mets were 6.5 games out of 1st place just when Willie was fired around June 17th. 3) This year, they were playing for a playoff spot which makes it much more exciting than aggravating like last year. 4) And even though we may not make it, the Mets made a good run. Way better than the Yankees did this year. Hopefully next year, the bullpen will be completely revamped and that our starting pitchers will be healthy and last more than 4 to 5 innings. Finally, hopefully our batters will learn to shorten their swings and make contact with men in scoring position. Other than that, I personally don't feel any regret that the Mets don't make it this year.

Its a pennant race and we pretty much have lost barring a miracle. If Wilpon and Co. take cheap route this offseason though, I hope it bites them in the financial ass. The reason they can continue to put a barely competitve team on the field is because we have bought tickets in droves to get in citifield. This team is hardly any good, all you need to do is look at 85% of the roster. Not a team that should win anything...

It wont matter if the rest of the bullpen can't to him.

The only reason they were in first for only three days is because the second they built a sizeable lead they choked it away. They were four up in the loss column with a game in hand just a couple weeks ago in the division, and then even after they gagged first place away they were three up in the loss column for the Wild Card and the Brewers were reeling. This is absolutely a collapse. Who gives a crap where they were in June. With three weeks left in the season they had a 4 game lead.

Just because it's not a monumental collapse, doesn't mean it's not a collapse. This year will make an excellent historical footnote to last year. This team has ground some pretty hardcore optimistic fans into an unrecognizable pulp the last two seasons. I seen it with my own two eyes. Now, I always considered myself more a realist, but liked my team and at least hoped for good things to come of them, pretty much without fail. That said, I pity anyone who expects anything very different from the Mets next year besides the location. The premature long term extension to Omar tells me everything I need to know. As last year, let me be the first to say: F*ck the 2009 Mets.

I'm also shocked how the media wants to portray this as a "monumental collapse" just so that they can continue to sell papers and radio/TV airtime. The fact that this team's season was really done in May and yet we are still fighting for a playoff spot is actually pretty incredible and reflective of the positive effect Manuel has had on this ballclub. Yes, we had leads late in the season, but with an ineffective bullpen with 29 blown saves and the loss of our star closer for the last two months of the season, did you really think that the chase for the pennant would be a done deal??? Hardly. The bottom line is that there will be people who will see this year as a major failure and you have that right. There are others who see this as disappointing end to the season, but one that can be readily addressed in the offseason to make this team the dominant force in the NL. Unfortunately, for some of you who have seen the Mets win a championship or are too young to remember '86 (or before), I can see how this failure can lead to more anguish and disappointment. All I can say is "hang in there" for this is what being a Mets fan is all about. That is, what you think should be NEVER is... Finally, I realize that many of you disagree, but I hope that Manuel gets a shot to manage this team for a full season. If it weren't for him, we wouldn't even be having IGTs at this point of the season. I truly believe that he was solely responsible for the resurgence of Delgado and Reyes. He also is extremely well-liked by the players, and, until recently, it has showed in their play on the field.
