Default Braves Laughing At Mets Futility

Mets Blog

FROM Brian Costello

I had an interesting perspective for the end of the Mets-Cubs game tonight and thought Mets fans might find it interesting.

I watched the end of the game in the Braves' clubhouse in Philadelphia.

I'm here covering the Phillies side of the NL East chase but went over to the Atlanta clubhouse to talk to Chipper Jones about his home run.

When I got over there it was the top of the 10th and many of the Braves were dressed in their suits sitting around a big-screen TV watching the game. Several players debated who had worse fans - the Phillies or the Mets - as they debated who they'd like to see make the playoffs.

As Derrek Lee singled in the go-ahead run the Braves exploded, cheering on the Cubs. It happened again when Aramis Ramirez homered and a few members of the team and traveling party began singing "Meet the Mets." Others mocked the Kevin James video shown at Shea Stadium where he screams "Let's Go Mets."

I'd give you names but I'm not sure who many of these guys even are. The Braves roster has turned over so much and with September call-ups most of the guys are unrecognizable without a jersey on.

I asked Chipper what he thought about this weekend and he said, "I wouldn't want to play the Marlins right now."

Chipper was watching the game, but was not one of the players celebrating. I do think he cracked a smile when Ramirez homered. Maybe he's just an old friend ...

Who the **** isn't laughing at these chokers right now? I bet Beane and other elite gm's are laughing all the way to the bank right now figuring out how they will dupe Omar into bad trades the next 4 years.

I don't care about them laughing it up. But to debate "who has the worst fans"? THAT'S bullshit. Pure bullshit. I was at the game. The fans got behind the team so ****ing hard and only booed the **** out of them after the bottom of the 9th ended -- and the Mets deserved it.

Like I said in another thread. I hate this "Blame the Fans" mentality!!! We are the victims of this horrid team that pretends to be a contender every year.

The fans only really booed in the 10th, and even then it seemed half-hearted. After booing David Wright, everyone at Shea had that same horrible expression on their face, the "I can't believe this team is going to blow it for the 2nd year in a row. Why God, why?"

The game was comical, so why wouldn't everyone laugh at the Mets? I even mentioned in the IGT that the Phillies and their fans had to be laughing at the Mets futility.

Shea exploded when Murphy hit that triple.

The Braves players were trying to deabte who had the worst fans? How do they know fans? Braves don't have any. They can't even sell out a home playoff game....PLEASE.

What has me scratching my head is the hatred other teams have for the Mets.

The Mets as a group are a bunch of wallflowers and pansies.

Perez came up real small in that 5th inning. REAL SMALL.

"Big game" Perez my ass.

He beats free-swinging teams.

I don't want him back on this team after last night. The things one likes about Ollie, are the same things that makes us want to rip our hair out.

No thanks.

I am on the side of that WHEN this team doesn't make the playoffs, enemas and overhauls need to be done this winter (of course I do not trust Omar to be the one to do that).

The Mets deserve to get laughed at.

Also, I am also very tired of the Met fans getting a bad rap. From what I can see, the fans have been booing when they deserve it the most. For the most part, it seems the fans are doing everything they can to show support, but these F*ckstick players wont have any part of it, and rise to the occasion.

Blame the fans for this ? No way.

Our problem is we show boat too much. Teams get pissed with the Reyes dancing, chest bumping etc.,, So teams that have nothing to play for love to spoil our season. You know Florida is going to be fired up to beat us this weekend. Just look at last night on the field in the image below you have Delgado/Reyes chest bumping like they are in a nightclub. When you do that stuff with a 5-1 lead teams think you are rubbing it in especially the bad teams.
