Default Weather to play a big factor this week...

...too bad we didn't get that retractable roof stadium earlier this decade, eh?

All kidding aside, this week's forecast past today is very, very dicey for not only Thursday, but on into a part of SATURDAY.

This is going to make for some effed up scheduling and I smell doubleheaders. Not saying anything is set in stone, but this is going to really suck if it pans out.

From the NWS for Flushing, NY:

Thursday: Rain likely, mainly after 3pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 66. Windy, with a east wind between 21 and 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: Rain, mainly after 10pm. Areas of fog after 2am. Low around 60. Windy, with a east wind between 20 and 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday: Rain, mainly before noon. Areas of fog. High near 65. Breezy, with a east wind between 18 and 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 62. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Saturday: Rain likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 75. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

The Mets ABSOLUTELY have to win tonight's game. A Philly and/or Milwaukee loss would be nice too. The Mets CANNOT be tied with the Brewers going into this weekend.

They have to do everything possible to get Thursday's game in. Based on the forecast, they'll get in at least 1 and probably 2 on Saturday.

Worst case scenario is playing a makeup game on Monday with the Cubs who will pretty much play nobody and then have to play a wild card playoff game on Tuesday before opening up the playoffs on Wednesday in Wrigley.

Plus that would suck for everyone going Sunday who thought they'd be seeing the last regular season game at Shea since there'd be 2 more after that at that point.

The weather people can't even tell you what's gonna happen in three hours, let alone three days. The best they can do is tell you what's happening now, and what today's "high temperature" was. Weather "forecasting" is the biggest scam going.

I would hope that the forecast will not bear out, but in this case I would have to agree with what they are saying...

Are SI and I the only two weather buffs here?

You definitely are not...

The weather forecast has me VERY worried... They will have to try and do asomething for Thursday night... The will have to play that game sometime...

As for the weekend, it's pretty clear they will have to play 2, maybe on Saturday...If we need a sweep over the weekend, a DH will not help...

And that has me the most worried. The Mets are terrible at taking two. What is their record this year in doubleheaders, anyway? I believe they've split them all, no?

Actually, the Cubs have a make up game scheduled that day with the Astros, if necessary, who are now 4 1/2 behind the Mets in the WC. I doubt they will be a factor but that would really be wild if the Mets and Brewers go on losing streak and the Stros go on a winning streak.

Split every DH this season... Hard to win out when you have to play 2...

Amen to that. I been saying that to my co-workers who always likes to say, "Ohh its going to rain around 5pm tonight". Then nothing happens!

true, but sometimes you can just tell, like with Tropical Storm Hanna and the Phillies game rained out 2 weeks ago. This could be setting up to be a similar situation, but I'm not going to be making any weather calls until tomorrow afternoon.

True but it looks like this is a Nor'easter/extra tropical system... Could linger a while...

Could be setting up a Doubleheader on Saturday with Pedro and Pelfrey and Santana on Sunday and Ollie Perez on Monday vs. Marshall

That is indeed not far-fetched at all. I am hoping they can play through the raindrops on Friday, but I have a feeling that the second pulse will be coming through then. Figures.

Given the overworked bullpen the scenario I described would be sub-optimal...

And it would sure put a crimp in the whole 'Last Game at Shea'
