Default Doomsday Scenario!!!

Game 162

Mets are even with Milwaukee on the last day of the season...

Milwaukee is up 8-0 after the first inning with Sabathia going....

Santana has a 3-1 lead in the 8th inning, after 131 pitches....

He goes out with elbow "tightness" after getting 2 batters out in the 9th (two days later we find out that he needs Tommy John surgery and will miss all of 2009)....

The Brewers have just won 12-4....

Ayala comes in and loads the bases....

Feliciano comes in and gives up a 2 run single.....

Wild pitch makes it 4-3 Fish.....

Wright/Delgado/Beltran go down in order in the 9th......

The Mets and their fans "celebrate" the end of the Shea Era.

Why do I fear that the reality might even exceed Frank's nightmare scenario?

You mean like being up by 7 with two innings to play and watching reliever after reliever give up 9 runs?

Throw in Santana and Beltran being crushed by a blimp and you've got my expectations for Sunday.

the brewers went from the 1st inning to a final in the amount of time it took the mets to go from 3-1 in the 8th to two outs in the ninth?

I'll change the scenario a bit. The Mets situation stays the same but the Brewer situation is different. Instead, they are losing by 4 runs in the ninth and Braun hits a dinger to get them within three. They get three more guys on base and then realize that they have used all their pinch hitters so they have to let the pitcher, Mota, hit. He hits a grand slam and they win the game.

All this happens while the Mets go down 1,2,3.

I chuckled through this post with lamentful tears mixed in.

My whole week has been dominated by similar doomlike thoughts. Yes, I know it is not healthy or rational, nor does it take into account proper perspective in the grand scheme of things.

But, that being said - GODDAMMIT I WANT THESE BASTARDS TO WIN, NOT LOSE LIKE LAST YEAR, AND IT IS BREAKING MY F**KING HEART!

something ridiculous is certain to happen in the next few days....someone will drop a routine fly ball, or fall down rounding the bases or god forbid get injured....

There is no way the next 6 days are going to be ordinary....
