Default Your Worst Shea Memory

Talk here about it. If yours is a postseason one (like, "Game 5 2000"), do a regular season one, too, because it's more interesting.

I mentioned my worst in the other thread. My second worst was Opening Day, 2003 with the Vagina discharging his secretion all over the Shea Stadium mound. What a clusterf*ck that was. And nevermind the ridiculous crap that went on down on the field, suddenly everyone in the stands who isn't absolutely piss drunk is that guy in To Build a Fire. I thought my nose had fallen off by the third inning.

GET THE PIECE OF CRAP McGimpy OFF MY TEAM NOW!!!!!

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

I have lots for this list:

Mets vs Braves 1999. 16-0.

2007 Game 162.

Mando choke job vs Yanks 2003.

Lobin's revenge 2002.

I have more pain, but my nose is starting to bleed, so I'll stop.

Definitely the Terry Pendleton homer. I was so pissed when he hit that, I broke my toe kicking the end table in my living room.

I rarely agree w/ KO, but this is one of those times. I flew in from Dallas w/ my girlfriend to see The Tampons first Mets start. My Mom (a big Mets fan) picked us up at LGA, drove us to Shea, where we had to park about 5 miles from the Worlds Fair site. The three of us took a school bus and got to our field box seats just as Tammy threw her first pitch. It was about 38 degrees out and She couldn't throw a strike (now that She was in a Mets uniform, She was no longer getting the call 18 inches off the plate).

The game was a blow out by the 4th inning and we were all miserable. I told my Mom to take us back to the airport, and we flew home. That opening day we spent a total of about 3.5 hours in NY. Got back to Dallas that night and promptly got sick as a dog.

That would be my worst Shea memory. That, and anytime the bullpen doors opened this season.

Mets-Yanks, Wagner blows a 4 run lead, Mets end up losing. I went to the game with 3 co-workers, all yankee fans and talked sh*t the ENTIRE game while the Mets were winning. The night before Wright struck against Rivera to give the mets a victory and i was riding high. Longest drive home I've ever had. I think I said maybe 4 words in the 4 hours it took to get home.

As I've mentioned before, my father and I go down to Shea at least once a year (since 1989)

well in 98 this is the game we chose to go to.

Box Score of Game played on Wednesday, July 15, 1998 at Shea Stadium

What a terrific ride home. Galarraga's HR of Yoshi still hasn't landed.

was also at the Mando meltdown game vs Yankees in 03 on the Sunday Night

we left after they tied the game. Made the right decision.

Was the 16-0 game fireworks night against Maddux? I believe Trax was pitching (yes, I was at alot of those games) and the crowd was chanting "We want fireworks!" in the fourth inning.

I was at two games towards the end of 2001 where we were facing the Braves and Benitez blew it. I was at one game where we were up by (I think) 4 runs and Benitez came in, and someone (ignorant to the Mets choke-i-tude) with me goes, "OK, so three more outs and we can go home, right?" That kinda jinxed it right there.

Any game that Steve Traschel pitched.

I was at Game 2 of the NLCS against the Cardinals in 2006, where Wagner blew it to the great So Taguchi. You've never heard 56,000 fans collectively shut the hell up as fast as that. We were in the top row of the upper deck way out behind left field and you could literally hear a pin drop on the field, which is pretty impressive since it's made of grass and dirt.

I was at the game (in Philly, so it's not really a Shea memory) where Pedro got hurt in Philly. The fans were such @ssholes that we wound up leaving during the 7th inning. It's sad how security guards could laugh at some of the shiot Phillie fans were doing.

I was at fan appreciation day in 1997 where they gave everyone a photo album type thing with all the players in it to get autographed. Since I was a wee bit smaller, I was leaned up against the front row by the dugout. I handed my book to Butch Husky and he looks at me and goes, "Do you have a pen?" I didn't (the players all had sharpies, but I guess he ate his), and he handed the book back to me and ran straight to the buffet line.

Attending Shea?

2008, Game 162.

1999 NLCS Game 3.

2001, the first of the Benitez meltdowns against the Braves.

1998, Rick Reed's no-hit bid against the Marlins, which the Mets lost.

I still haven't thawed completely from that game. Definitely the most miserable time.

This is easy for me. The Brian Jordan/Armando Benitez game in 2001. I'm still reeling.

I was also at the Benitez game against the Yankees in 2003 and the Ventura's Revenge game in 2002. The difference there is that it was clear the team was going nowhere.
