Post What is your favorite Shea memory?

The Mets open their final homestand tonight at Shea against the Cubs. However, instead of nostalgia, the Mets are in a fight to get into the playoffs. It would have been nice had they wrapped up a playoff spot by now, but the bullpen made that impossible.Perhaps some of you might enjoy your greatest Shea [...]

I met my Wife at Shea. That's my favorite memory.

BTW, does anybody click on this dude's links? I'm just wondering if anybody cares.

My favorite shea memory is when my morbidly obese friend fell asleep for 6 innings during a met yankee game. Matt Ginter was pitching so I could understand wanting to sleep, but not when 50k are cheering loudly. If he did not snore so loudly I would have made the assumption that he was dead.

And no one clicks on his links.

In no particular order, except the first one:

Mike Piazza's return to Shea with San Diego in 2006.

Benny Agbayani's walk-off against San Francisco in the 2000 NLDS.

John McSherry handing me a baseball that had just been used during infield practice in a game against the Cubs when I was a little kid in 1981.

Betting five of my friends on our way to the game that Barry Lyons of all people would hit a grand slam on my birthday in 1987 against the Giants. And by some miracle of God he actually did.

Five first inning doubles in Game 4 of the 2000 NLCS, including four consecutively at the start, to obliterate what had been a 2-0 St. Louis lead. I honestly thought for a moment that the mezzanine would collapse. I've never heard anything that loud in my life, before or since.

Being one of what at the time seemed like only 500 people watching Kenny Rogers pitch against Pittsburgh on the last regular season Friday of 1999, when almost all hope was gone, watching the scoreboard to see what Milwaukee and the Reds were doing, and eventually watching Robin Ventura win it in the 11th.

Seeing Greg Maddux saunter off the mound in late September 1999, to a chorus of mocking chops, after surrendering a grand slam to John Olerud. God, I loved that '99 team as much as I loathe this one.

Freezing my balls off in early April of 1988 (it actually snowed briefly in the beginning of the game) on a Saturday afternoon watching Carter and Hojo go back-to-back against Todd Worrell in the 8th inning to cap a come-from-behind win against the hated Cardinals.

The amazing comeback on Opening Day, 1996.

A drunken krunchyfrogg nearly getting run over by Mookie Wilson.

Ah, and taking a piss right next to Bob Murphy in the Diamond Club (actually, in the bathroom of the Diamond Club; it wasn't that great of a highlight).

YOU SHOULD BE THE MANAGER!!!

I wasn't drunk enough to forget it!

Bobby V. blew some games and the Mets had just been swept by the Braves in '99. I think it was with 2 weeks left in the season.

Was that the same night a girl asked me if I was one of the bat boys?

Some other great memories:

Ventura hitting 2 Grand Slams in 1 day.
Ventura's Grand Slam Single
Matt Franco's hit off of Rivera
Fonzie hitting a homer in the playoffs.
I don't know the specific game, but I saw Doc pitch in '87. The park had a completely different feel to it.
Seeing a fan get on Strawberry's back (it was my first "boo bird" experience... the guy told him there are two sides to this game after he screwed up in RF)
Seeing Straw return to Shea as a Dodger and seeing fans throw strawberries at him (again, I was a kid and thought it was funny as all Hell)
Mike Hampton's complete game sending the Mets to the WS.
Bobby Jones' 1 hitter
Meeting the poster known as Neil Allen.
Meeting the great Baboo.
Meeting both Lindas.

Damn, I'm pretty lucky.

I was at four of those games. That means I probably high fived you at least once.

When the Met fans in anger over another collapse, tore Shea Stadium apart and then set fire to CitiField.

Oh wait, that hasn't happened yet. Just wait a few days.

Well, if one of them was the game against the Pirates in '99 we probably spilled beer on each other. I swear, it felt like there were about 12 people there by the time the game ended, and everyone left had moved down to maybe three sections of the Field Level behind home plate.

Yeah, I went to Strawberry's first game back too. If I recall correctly he hit a moonshot off of Viola.

I can vouch that Kevin Elster actually hit a HR at Shea, in beating the Pirates 2-1. I can't remember the year (probably somewhere around 1990). On the way back we took the no. 7 line, and then picked up NJ Transit at Penn Station. While waiting for the train, a heavy metal concert (can't remember the band) let out at the Garden. The trip home was a real treat. My wife and I actually stood out to the vestibule of the car because we feared for our lives from these crazy wacked out people. It was the last time I took public transit to Shea.

Oh wait - this thread was favorite memory. Nevermind.
