Default The End of Yankee Stadium....

Just got through watching ESPN's marathon coverage of the closing of Yankee Stadium. I swear, the JFK assassination got less coverage then this. I do admit it though, it was handled pretty professionally, even by Capt. Fist Pump.

So when we close Shea next weekend who goes to the mound to thank the fans for the 45 years of misery? I think Heilman shuld do it.

I can't believe they let that puppy killer finish out the game.

As I was flipping through the channels, I couldn't stand to have it stay on ESPN. I just can't take the ballwashing. Please nuke that area of the Bronx pronto.

I didnt think it was much of a "ballwashing"....what did you expect on a night like that? The only part that really galled me was the Wille stuff. The rest I thought was good.

I'm just tired of the whole thing, from the ASG, to the references of being a baseball cathedral and mecca, to the Sunday night game to close out the park. I don't discount the history the place holds, but I'm just tired of having to hear about it all year long. Meanwhile, Shea's last season wasn't even be a blip on the national media's screen. It still pisses me off that they had to close both stadiums in the same year. I guarantee you next year the new Yankee Stadium will get all the coverage and CitField will be a footnote. One can only hope the Mets get an ASG at CitiField before Yankee Stadium again.

The only satisfaction I derive out of this is that there will be no PS games at Yankee Stadium this year, or the ballwashing would continue. Let's hope the Mets can hold on to the wild card so that there will be at least one PS game at Shea.

Should Heilman do it, it'll be a re-enactment of the JFK assassination.

Ill say this....those who think the new Yankee Stadium will have the same "feel" are sadly mistaken. Thats becuase the new Stadium will NOT have fans in the same proximity to the field that the current one does. IMO this is THE reason why the YS crowds are so loud and raucous. That intamacy of the current YS really leads to that. Its the opposite at Shea, where the place is so cavernous, you cant see SEE the crowd on the opposite side of the place.

Whatever the fans and media say, the new YS will NOT be the same in terms of the feel to the place from the fans. Its a physical impossibility.

There was a ton of ballwashing going on. It turned my stomach.

It probably wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't watched it a few months ago. The ASG coverage was the same crap!

I can't believe work was open for business today and when it was, I was very disappointed when I tried to use bereavement for today and was denied.

I don't even care what ESPN thinks... it is more sad when Shea's last season is barely a blip on the LOCAL media's screen.

It was a gigantic ball-washing festival, the likes of which put every other instance of ball washing, combined, in the whole history of washing balls, to shame. If you could concoct a pair of balls that matched the washing going on, the person who possessed said balls would gag the Grand Canyon if he tried to tea bag it.

I thought the Yankees did a really memorable, professional job with the ceremony, while giving the fans what they wanted (Bernie).
