Default "the Mets know you're better than they are".

Hey Schmidt, go fu(k yourself. To think, you were one of the only Phillies I ever liked. Apparently years of playing in Philly and adopting their cheese steak mentality has taken its toll.

Folks, it's not so much that he encourages his former team. It's the above quote. Did he really think the Mets wouldn't find out?

I swear, that team, and Philly sport teams in general, are always talking sh!t. G Men win the Super Bowl and suddenly their 8-8 team is favored to win it this year.

God I hope that crappy city never wins anything.

I had the same exact thought when I heard this. Go **** yourself Schmidt. Whatever respect I had for you is now gone. You were a great player but that is all.

He's right. They are better... and the sweep this weekend will KILL the Mets. They won't recover. Phils win the division by 4 games.

I see no problem with this e-mail. He was a life-long Phil and is trying to voice support for his team. At least it wasn't like Gary Carter a few years back saying "you guys are close to being champs again" (just make me your manager and it will be so).

Seriously though, Schmidt has the facts all wrong. Considering where we were with Willie, it is amazing that we are even thinking about a possible post-season berth. As badly as the Mets played in the first half, the Phils should be in the position as the Los Angeles Angels (in first with a Magic # of 5). Why did the Phils even let the Mets overtake them during the season if they are so much the better team??? No doubt that this e-mail will be posted in the Mets clubhouse today, and ironically may serve as a means of motivating the Mets, rather than the Phils. Thank you Mike Schmidt for possibly waking up a team that, at times, needs reminding that payback vs. the Phils is in order for last year's debacle.

LOL, like if any of them cared about it. I'm sure it had its desired effect on the Phls however. Anyone not expecting a sweep on Sunday is kidding themselves

Like Ron said during the broadcast, neither team probably gave a crap about what that guy wrote.

Uh... the story was released by the media at 8:28 PM yesterday--- during the game. I'm sorry but I don't think that the Mets players were online at that time, and it is highly likely that any of them were aware of the comments until later in the evening or even today. We'll see if they take these comments lightly next game.

I agree. Seems like it's more for the media to wank off over. Most ballplayers would be more concerned with food/tail after the game.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

I'd say that is probably the case.

Stand corrected... but the Mets were lifeless anyway...

You know what? Comments like this often backfire in that they motivate their opposition, rather than demoralise them. Who can forget Agbayani's ill-conceived remarks prior to the Subway Series?
