| Demetris Nichols-F- Knicks Jul. 12 - 10:26 am et Demetris Nichols, taken by Portland with the 53rd pick in the draft and then traded to the Knicks, is likely to spend the upcoming season in Europe. Because Nichols was a second-round pick, the Knicks do not have to sign him to a guaranteed contract and would still retain his rights. Isiah Thomas is still trying to make some moves to cut the roster from 17 to the maximum 15 to allow Nichols to play for the Knicks this season. "Obviously you can only have 15 during the season," senior VP Glen Grunwald told The Post. "We'll find a way to either keep him on the team or retain him as an asset for the future," he said. Can't they just take Jefferies out back and shoot him? Do that, and presto! open roster spot for Nichols.... ![]() | |

| Even if they get rid of Jefferies they are still one over the limit...

| I still think Isaiah will deal Nate Robinson and one of the ugly contracts before the season starts. He speaks glowingly about Nichols so I doubt he wants to let him rot in Europe when he could contribute in NY. Possible deal for a guy who can be cut and a pick in next years draft.

So, yes, I would rather have Nichols over Robinson ANY day. I enjoy Robinson's energy and think he's got a ton of potential, but with Marbury here already there's no need for another shoot first point guard. Nichols, on the other hand, showed throughout his collegiate career that he has the ability to shoot from the outside, drive down the lane or pass it off to an open teammate. He is just what this team needs, an unselfish play-maker who is a threat from more than one place on the floor.

| I was watching a game the other day and Clyde said that he thinks Nichols will have a hard time making the Knicks roster because they already have a bunch of good shooters? I'm not sure which team Clyde's been watching the last few years. It's a position the Knicks desparately need in my opinion and this guy looks good. But why did he drop so far in the draft? Isiah will probably either try to trade or buyout Fred Jones and Dan Dickau's contracts to make room. I think we're stuck with James and Jeffries. |
