Default Randolph to the Grizzlies for DARKO?

Knicks shopping Zach Randolph to Grizzlies in possible Darko Milicic deal

Quote:
Donnie Walsh is on the verge of correcting one of Isiah Thomas' biggest financial mistakes.
Walsh, the Knicks president, confirmed Saturday that the Knicks are in talks with the Memphis Grizzlies about a possible deal for Zach Randolph, the veteran power forward who doesn't fit into Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo offense.
"There is no deal," Walsh said over the telephone early Saturday. "We've spoken to Memphis but there is nothing happening so far."
A source close to the negotiations said that a trade is unlikely to take place before Monday. Walsh refused to comment on a report in Memphis Commercial Appeal that claims the Knicks would be required to pick up part of the deferred payments Randolph is owed over the final three years of his contract that will pay him $48 million.
For removing Randolph's bloated salary from their payroll, the Knicks would be required to take back power forward Darko Milicic and point guard Marko Jaric, fellow countrymen from Serbia. Milicic, who flopped in Detroit after being the second overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft right after LeBron James and before Carmelo Anthony, is scheduled to make $14.5 million over the next two years. Jaric will earn $21 million over the next three years.

Two disturbing things in that article..

Quote:
Walsh has been actively trying to trade Randolph and nearly had a deal with the Clippers in July. It is still unclear why Walsh passed on a trade that simply would have involved moving Randolph and his contract to Los Angeles without having to receive a player in return. Once Walsh passed, the Nuggets stepped in and traded Marcus Camby to the Clippers.
If true, Walsh screwed the pooch on that one.

Quote:
There is still the possibility that Stephon Marbury will be released at some point. Walsh declined to comment on Marbury's status and would only say that the veteran point guard is "in the best shape of his life" which is not unlike the off-season reports Isiah Thomas always gave on Marbury.
I am beginning to resign to the idea that Crapbury is going nowhere, if only because something that was a no-brainer months ago, now has to turned to "possibly"... SOK = Same Old Knicks

Well ..if you are gonna suck anyway..so be it..but I just personally am skeptical that ALL THIS cap money coming off the books will be for naught as KNicks get spurned by all the BIG NAME FA's..leaving knicks to settle for overpaying 2nd tier FA's thus keeping the cycle going..hope I'm wrong..and..despite his flaws...still think Randolph can be good..but that may be just me..

Meh. At least Randolph has some game. You're still stick with the other 2 guys for 2 and 3 years and they are horrible.

I'm all about the Knicks just sitting and doing nothing. Randolph becomes a little more tradable every year he gets closer to the end of his deal. They are going no where this year, I'd just assume wait and see if they can actually get some one who can play for him next year.

I'm hearing this is just about a done deal. Jaric has been working out in NY with Lee and Robinson and Darko has told friends he is 99% sure he will be a Knick. Looks like Memphis is holding out for a 1st rounder but Walsh is reluctant without more being added, like Lowry.

Are you F*ING KIDDING ME..?? If anything, I would take it the OTHER WAY around..let them GIVE KNICKS a #1 pick... All for saving Knicks ONE YEAR in salary..I say KEEP HIM THEN..like Hat said..may be worth more down the line as years/$$ come off in time..If they want..then add ANOTHER $$ on Knicks side..JAmes/Jeffries..or any OTHER DEAD WEIGHT if they want a #1 tossed in..

Make it a 2011 protected first rounder and it's a great deal if you can get a Lowry in return.

Grizz are adding Crittenton in the deal, Walsh is asking for Lowry or Warrick instead. If you ask me, I take the deal with Critt and give them a protected 1st round pick beyond 2010.

Warrick would be great in the Dantoni system. If they getr him, I'd do the deal. If not... just ride it out.

Though I do think Darko can still be a good player. He was very productive in Orlando, and was progressing well until he went to the "Dead Zone" in Memphis

Grizzlies-Knicks Trade Talk Heats Up

Memphis wants the Knicks to pay some of Randolph's deferred salary.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

The New York Post and New York Newsday are reporting the Grizzlies want the Knicks to pay some of Zach Randolph's deferred salary from his $48 Million Dollar contract. The Knicks want the Grizzlies to give up another player, other than the previously discussed Darko Milicic and Newly acquired Marko Jaric. That other player could be backup forward Hakim Warrick, or backup point guard Kyle Lowry or Javaris Crittendon.. For that, the Grizzlies want a First Round pick which, the New York Post says, the Knicks may be willing to give up.
Randolph is a 6'9", 260 low post threat who averaged more than 17-points and 10 rebounds a game for the Knicks last Season... He averaged more than 23-points and 10 boards in his last season with Portland 2-years ago. The Grizzlies do NOT have a proven scorer with a Big Body down low..to take the pressure off emerging star Rudy Gay, and Top Rookie O.J. Mayo. Both Darko Milicic and Marko Jaric have told their agents and Serbian Newspapers they expect to be Knicks by the End of the Week. The Post reports Randolph telling friends he expects to be in Memphis by the start of Training Camp September 30th.
C'mon Walsh, get this done.

After further review...I have softened and will accept this deal..if its a "conditional"....looking at Hakim's #'s..makes we wonder why Grizzlies are even bothering..why not give him Warrick the spot....I take him..although Lowery would seem to fit the system like a glove and with pg still a potential need..would be even NICER if Knicks let Grizz KEEP JARIC and take Warrick AND LOWERY instead..would be great to dump another dead weight contract on them as well.but thats asking for too much...Whatever the deal though..a THREE for one clogs the roster EVEN more..more bodies to go...if its Lowery..gotta beleive Stephs the next shoe to drop immediately....

I would do it. I'm tired of Zach Randolph and his type of player. Darko is a good shot blocker and maybe you get something out of jaric. Adding lowery or Warrick to the deal makes it a bonus.

Knicks can't unload Randolph -- Newsday.com

Knicks can't unload Randolph

BY ALAN HAHN | alan.hahn@newsday.com
10:21 PM EDT, September 19, 2008

For the second time in this offseason, trade discussions involving Zach Randolph have failed to come to fruition.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh was most recently engaged in talks with the Memphis Grizzlies, but multiple sources told Newsday that the Grizzlies have since reconsidered and decided to pass on Randolph. Walsh is still looking to find ways to shed Randolph's hefty contract, which has three years and $48 million left on it, but for now it appears that the 6-9 forward likely will remain a Knick when training camp opens in 11 days.

Last month, Walsh and Grizzlies general manager Chris Wallace discussed a deal that would have sent Randolph to Memphis in exchange for center Darko Milicic and swingman Marko Jaric. The Grizzlies, however, also wanted Walsh to give up a first-round pick in the deal. With the Knicks' 2010 first-round pick already earmarked for the Utah Jazz as part of the Stephon Marbury trade from 2004 -- the pick was originally traded by Isiah Thomas to the Phoenix Suns, who later traded it to Utah -- Walsh does not want to give up any more draft picks.

But Walsh does want to rid the Knicks' payroll of Randolph's salary, which pays him $14.6 million this .season, $16 million next season and balloons to $17.3 million in 2010-11. Randolph did put up good numbers last season -- 17.6 points and 10.3 rebounds per game -- but he is not considered a good fit in coach Mike D'Antoni's up-tempo scheme.

Considering his huge contract and prevailing questions about his character, Randolph will not be an easy player to move, but the Knicks have had their opportunities.

In July, the Los Angeles Clippers .expressed interest in Randolph, but Walsh declined their offer of a second-round pick .because the Clippers also asked for a first-round pick to come along with Randolph.

Thomas also had the opportunity to move Randolph before the trading deadline last season. The Denver Nuggets were deep in trade discussions before the deal fell apart in the 11th hour.

This was the first I heard of Clips also asking for a #1..,,SHEESH..talk about EXTORTION!
