Default Cassel to Chiefs for Nothing!

I cannot think of a reason the Pats would trade Cassel for a nothing draft pick!! This is ludicrous!!

Matt Cassel traded from New England Patriots to Kansas City Chiefs - ESPN

SIMPLE $$$$.. they FRANCHISED him..so they would have had to pay him TOP QB $$ for league..and they already have a FRANCHISE QB making more $$ than him who is better..they could have let him walk away from team for NOHING..this way they got something...I was MORE# shocked that they sent VRABEL along with him...and EVEN more shocked they didn't take the BETTR deal with TAMPA/DENVER..would have gotten 1 and a 3,,but I guess they eanted to help out former employee Pioli..

Actually Denver interested in trading Cutler for Cassel(who I still am NOT convinced is the TOTAL pkg.) was the MOST suprising..

If I'm the Jets...I would see if he IS AVAILABLE..having it leak out will not be the best thing for Broncos now he is BLINSIDED and not happy..

Trade talk rattles Cutler - The Denver Post

Add him and a WR and the Jets become SB contenders..

The Patriots had almost no leverage in this deal at all. Everyone knew that Cassel wasn't their QB and since they franchised him, they would have to take whatever they can get. When you consider how much people value draft picks in this league (hell people don't want to part with 3rd or 4th rounders for people) it is pretty good that they were able to get that. If you told people last year at this time that the Patriots would be able to get a top 35 pick for Matt Cassel you would have been laughed at.

More to the point the Pats sent him there for the sake of Pioli. Bill takes care of his friends and if I were the commissioner I would take a good hard look at this "trade".

The trade with the Chiefs was pretty much finalized before the Bucs came calling. For them to back out of that deal to even talk to the Bucs was too much of a risk.
