| Jets rush on 'D': Sign LB Bart Scott, near deal for CB Lito Sheppard In another bold move, the Jets are close to acquiring former Pro Bowl cornerback Lito Sheppard in a trade with the Eagles, according to a league source. They will have to surrender a fifth-round pick in the upcoming draft and a conditional choice in 2010, ranging from a second- to a fifth-rounder. Sheppard, who has three years, $11 million remaining on his contract, is due to arrive today to take a physical and meet with Jet officials. Barring any complications, a deal could be announced today... The Jets also filled a hole on their offensive line, finalizing a deal with right guard Brandon Moore one day after they released him in a cap-related move. They turned to Moore only hours after being spurned by the Steelers' Chris Kemoeatu, who rejected the Jets' four-year, $16 million offer. (He received five years, $20 million from the Steelers.) Essentially, the Jets gave the same contract to Moore, who signed a four-year, $16 million package that includes $10 million in guarantees, according to a league source..... GLAD to see they acted quickly on this..Kemoeatu may have been an upgrade..but they could have been left with crap.. I guess..they STILL could get Ivey too. Ryan is hoping to land two more former Ravens, safety Jim Leonhard and nickel back Corey Ivy. Leonhard will arrive Saturday for a visit. Ivy visited Friday and left without a contract, but the Jets remain hopeful of signing him. I would have liked taking a stab at McAlister..wonder if Lito has anything left..but for the price...good deal..at this point why not MOVE Lowery to nickel and save the $$(not sign Ivey) for other needs.. Loving the aggressiveness though..

| I know.. Dawkins, Buckhalter depart Eagles for Denver; Considine joins Jaguars | Philadelphia Daily News | 02/28/2009 Sheppard, a two-time Pro Bowl corner, was replaced by Asante Samuel last offseason and asked to be traded. When that didn't happen, he suffered through a listless season, which ended with a benching. Sheppard will get a chance to start over in New York and earn the new contract he has sought---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He still has 3 years left/11 mil..and was BENCHED...IF I'm the Jets... I take a wait and see approach..play hard this year..show me what you got left..then we talk at end of season..

I AGREE..with the way they have been pooh-poohing the FA market of QB's.. I have already seen a couple of mock drafts..and they have Jets taking SAnchez (USC)...Reading the profile: Mark Sanchez, Southern California, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com Football ..and watching a tiny bit of him..I think I like that...he has only ONE year under his belt but GOOD SIZE/arm..and his positive strengths(leadership..ability to handle blitz) seem like a nice fit..and based on teams ahead of Jets (#17) I don't really see a danger of those teams snagging/needing a Qb either so I think he WILL be there.. What exactly is the breakdown of picks(s) for Jets.. I know they pick #17..but what is left..since the trades of Vilma/Robertson and what they gave up for Jenkins..I haven't heard what/where the FINAL talley stands.. WR class I beleive is deep again this year..so perhaps 2nd/3rd rounder can be used for WR too.

| Senior Member | I think Sanchez will be a bust. Everyone has been high on him and says that he's probably the most ready of all the QBs to start in the pro's right now, but I still just think he's not going to do all that great. He only has 1 year under his belt, he played on a team with absolutely explosive WRs who just shredded coverage most of the time. It wasnt like he had to throw bullets to get the ball to the guys in USC....they were wide open 1/2 the time and the other 1/2 they had physical tools that just dwarfed the CBs covering them. Not to mention that he rarely had to deal with a pass rush in his face. I just think that in the NFL where he's not going to have as much time to throw and he's going to have to squeeze some in there...those are areas where he's never really been tested. Nor has he had to play in the kind of weather they get here. To me, the Jets drafted 2 QBs last year...they have Clemens who was a 2nd round pick a few years before....find out what you have before racing out to pick a guy who's major reason for rushing to go pro is how crappy the QB class is this year. As for Shepard...he's lost a few steps the last few years. Maybe it was just him being unhappy, but there didn't look to be anything left in the tank |

| Again..my limited knoweldge of the college game impairs my opinions..but..I know Clemens didn't have an OL to speak of when he got his chance..but my Gut is telling me that he IS NOT the answer either..I think he could be a capable backup..but not the PRO NFL QB to build this team around..I liked what I saw from Ratliffe in a handful of preseason games more than i liked what I saw form Clemens...but I know the competetion was way different..but that said..If Sanchez COULD be the REAL deal..and the Scouts do their HW..and he is still sitting there...then i see no reason to draft him either.. Lito may very well not be what he was..all the more reason to bring in McAlister if healthy...eithe of them could move to nickel...with Lowery as depth/shift to S ?....could be a SPECIAL secondary.. And b/c of the questions..I hope Jets aren't STUPID again and renogotiate/GUARANTEE contract THIS EARLY...

| Well... i guess the Jets aren't taking a "wait and see " approach with Lito as they did RE-DO/Extend deal.. Comments on Jets' trade for Eagles cornerback Lito Shepp - 03-01-2009 The Jets surrendered two draft picks for Sheppard - a fifth-round choice in the upcoming draft and a conditional pick in 2010 that could go as high as a second-rounder or as low as a fourth, depending largely on playing time. The Jets sweetened Sheppard's contract, giving him a four-year, $27.2 million extension through 2013. It kicks in next year, when he receives a $10 million signing bonus in March." I gotta believe Jets RE-DO this NEXt year though..no way they Fork over 10 mil no matter how well he plays right??

The only thing good about this type of deal from the Jets perspective is that they can walk away after 1 season before that deal kicks in. | |

| Right..that what I meant...IF the Jets WANT him back..it will be on a NEW DEAL..they didn't fork over 7 mil to moore as a Roster Bonus..no way they do 10 mil..so if both parties CHOOSE TO..he could come back on a DIFFERENT deal like Mooer even if he goes FA..at the cost of a 5th rounder..worth the gamble..I 'm curious if they stil will go after Ivey...and if so...what would that mean for Lowery
