Default Well at least we will always have last year...

Looks like Osi is gone for the season and no Osi (and obviously no Strahan) means no playoffs, at least in my mind. The NFC East is going to be very competitive and I fear without the great pass rush that they had last year, the secondary is going to be exposed. Maybe Spags will come up with something to surprise us all but I don't know if they are going to be able to overcome the talent drain they had on defense.

I said at the end of last year that the SB got them a little grace period. Whatever happens this year, we can't complain, but I would have liked to have seen them at full strength. Maybe Strahan can be talked into coming back.

I was thinking exactly that about Strahan.

Nick with a negative post. Couldn't have seen that one coming.

As good as Osi's stats were last year, and his loss will hurt, he really wasn't as dominant as some here give him credit for when you consider 6 out of 13 sacks were in 1 game alone.

This defense doesn't seemed designed to force the DE's to get pressure. It seems designed to get the blitzers to apply the pressure where ever they come from. It's more about the scheme to apply the pressure then the actual players.

Osi's loss will obviously hurt, I just don't see it as doom for the whole season like the consistent negative posters do since his loss on the pass rush can be compensated, at a minimum, with Kiwanuka on passing downs.

Take these comments however you want, but per NFL Network, Strahan is quoted as saying the following when asked about a possible return to the Giants:
" I haven't been contacted by anyone yet, so it is premature to speculate right now, as of right now, I am enjoying Retirement"

I wouldn't say it was negative just more realistic. It is hard for teams to repeat even harder when you lose your best two defensive lineman. I am not saying that there is no way they make the playoffs, I would just be surprised. That said, I am not going to ***** or complain about it. It is what it is. This team has earned that.

Nick, how is claiming they won't even make the playoffs before the season even starts being realistic and not negative?

We all seen his post on the Mets and YOU still want to discuss with Nick what's negative and what's realistic?!?!

Osi will be a HUGE loss, but not "No playoffs" loss.

Pretty freaking delusional.

On topic, if you can convince Strahan to come out of retirement, great.

If not, the logical step is to put Kiwanuka back at DE, and let Gerris start at linebacker.

It's a burtal loss, especially having come in a preseason game. But we are Super Bowl champs, and that is still awesome.

Even if Strahan stays retired we can move Kiwi back to DE and start Clark (if healthy) and Wilkinson/Kiehl.

It hurts, but I don't see this as season over.

I've also read recently that he's lost about 10 pounds of muscle from last year so even if he does sign I wouldn't expect to see much of him over the first few weeks.

And for those that aren't aware, talk has the Giants $12 mil under the cap so it's doable without having to renegotiate any other deals.

Losing Osi hurts, but to me its not a miss the playoffs loss. I'd just assume let Strahan stay retired, let him end it on top. Obviously its better for the team if he comes back and if thats what he really wants to do so be it, but I'd hate for him to end up having an mess of a year after having pretty much a story book ending....

Kids gotta step up. Honestly I think the Giants will miss Osi's leadership off the field more than his play on. To me anyways, he's a good player who appeared to be a great one because of all the attention offenses paid to Strahan. As Dak mentioned outside of the Philly game where he just abused a rookie, he had a pretty mediocre year.
