Default Giants make Brows offer for Edwards

The Blue Screen - NY Daily News

According to a report in The Giant Insider, the Giants and Cleveland Browns were involved in brief trade talks recently in which the Giants asked for Edwards and the Browns wanted Smith (plus some draft picks) in return. The trade didn’t happen, obviously, but the article (you need a subscription to TGI read it) does speculate that the talks could heat up again as it gets closer to the NFL draft.

-------

What TGI says actually happened is that the Giants offered Cleveland the two draft picks they got in the Jeremy Shockey deal (a second and a fifth), and the Browns said they wanted those picks and Smith. The Giants said no to that, according to the story, but offered an alternative of the picks plus Domenik Hixon or Mario Manningham.

At that point, the story says, “Cleveland balked and the talks died.”

Personally, I wouldn't deal Smith and those picks for Edwards. With Burress out he's the teams best Wr.

Any other WR would be available though and I would consider sweetening the draft picks if needed.

I dont understand why they'd move a WR for a WR. Not to say Edwards isnt better than anyone they have, but without Plax they are already weak there...doesnt make a lot of sense to give one up.

A 2nd, a 5th, and Steve Smith? Forget that.

Edwards is way better then any WR outside of Plax and is a potential #1 caliber guy while at best the others are quality #2's. So, dealing a WR for Edwards isn't that big of a problem to me since WR's are deep this year in the draft and they could take one and be able to develop them.

Having said that, Smith is the only relative untouchable out of the remaining guys since he's such a vital part of the offense running the routes Shockey used to.

I wouldn't be surprised to still see it happen since where there's smoke there's usually fire and as the draft gets closer they'll talk more seriously, especially since there were also rumors weeks ago about Kiwanuka's name being brought up - though rebuffed shortly afterwards by Reese.

I have heard on Philly Radio staions that the Eagles may be in on trade talks too..they have multiple picks in draft to potentially offer too..plus with all the bad PR surrounding cutting Dawkins loose and McNabb wanting to finally GET A WR to throw too..perhaps they DO GO for a WR..either him or maybe Boldin..?

Yeah but your chances of getting a WR back in the draft goes down when they are being asked for multiple draft picks along with the WR. Giants still have a lot of other needs so I'd hate to give up a productive player in a need position, plus multiple picks there

Giants have 11 picks in the draft with (1) first, (2) 2nds, and (2) 3rds and a very deep roster already. There's little chance most of them make the team anyway since there's only so many roster spots available so dealing away picks with a lesser player for a potential #1 WR makes sense to me.
