The bad

Jacobs has been telling people he wants a contract that mirrors Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber’s seven-year, $45 million deal, a package that includes $16 million in guaranteed money.

The 6-foot-4, 260-pound runner said he’s not open to being designated with a franchise tag that would pay him $6.621 million in 2009 with no signing bonus. The Giants don’t traditionally like to use the tag, and Jacobs stiff-armed the idea.

“I would be angry,” Jacobs said. “It would probably cause some problems. But it’s nothing that we couldn’t deal with. I don’t think the Giants would put that high of a number against the cap,” he said. “I don’t anticipate that at all. I’m confident something will get done.”

If he's franchised I think it's a smart move by the Giants but I'd also expect him to hold out of camp in the hopes of forcing their hand on an extension.

To me the good bad comes down to Jacobs has yet to last a full season....but he might just be one of the top 3-4 backs in the game if/when he does.

The Giants just need to get him signed.

Why bother? We'll get our hopes up and then Gilbride will force another 15 run outing by him when Manning chucks balls into the wind.

Use the $ to replace Emmit Smith's legs and tell him "Here is $2m/year...unless you'd rather keep doing those horrendous 'just for men' commercials"
