Default Can someone explain the last episode of Survivor Man?

Were more details ever revealed? Did those guys know he was coming in advance, or did they just spot him before he spotted them? And did they kill someone in his honor - or was it just an "FYI, they usually do this after a killing"? (I assume the latter, but it was so unclear).

Did he not **** a kitten? wtf?

I know it ran quite a while back now - but I've seen it a few times and I still want more info. It was the best possible ending to the series - but it really left me wanting more.

I'm disappointed that his anthropology show didn't get picked up and he's now doing a glorified Fetch with Ruff Ruffman spin-off. But maybe the show with the teens will be better than it looks.

Incidentally - I want one of my HS students to go on that show. I thought he played basketball because he read "how to get into every college on the face of the earth" and somewhere it said you had to be well rounded, so he picked a sport at random. But no - in addition to being ridiculously smart - in every single club and on every single committee - he was the star of the basketball team. And just when I thought I heard it all - he ran a marathon. He's the 17 year old version of the Dos Equis "World's Most Interesting Man".

But back on topic - wtf with the end of Survivor Man? Anybody know?

He crawled into a bottle and never came out except to occasionally post on a sports-related internet message board.....

Does it bother you that despite my trailer, I'm able to find happiness without intoxicants? Because you sound jealous. Go back to waving money in front of someone who will drop her panties for you - you bore me.

I love Stroud's show but don't get to watch it that often, and obviously missed this episode...give me a synopsis please.

He's in the Amazon or something - the episode goes as most do - he gets to a point where he knows he's going to cross some property to take the shortest route to his ride home, and he's afraid he'll be mistaken for a sheep thief. He thinks if the locals don't mistake him for a thief, they'll be ok with him crossing their property, but he isn't sure. And in the distance he sees two guys. He's pretty sure they'll kill him if they think he's a thief, but they approach him and it turns out they have heard there was a man (Les) about and they want to invite him to this ceremony/ritual type thing. It isn't explained if they heard because spies spotted him, or if they heard because whatever cable channel Les works for sent word - nothing - no explanation. So after the meeting with the two guys, Les walks back to the camera and explains that he's going to this thing. How these guys in the middle of no where speak English isn't addressed. Les mentions, however, that the type of ceremony/celebration thing they're doing is normally reserved for after a killing. Of a human. And it isn't explained whether or not this is the case this time - but they are doing it in Les' honor. He also mentions that it's the first time this tribe has let anyone see their ceremony or film it or include a white guy. And then it fades out with him in a circle with a bunch of guys with spears and ceremonial garb. His fade-out voice over is something poignant about how some people are watchers and some people are doers and he's a doer or something like that.

I'm sure I've gotten a lot of that wrong - but I get so mesmerized each time it runs that I forget to pay better attention. I just can't get over the fact that he goes along with this and never explains any of it.

He was in Papua/New Guinea, which is still pretty freaking wild and there's plenty of places there that no white man has ever explored on the ground.

I'm guessing, not knowing the tribalism in the area, it was some sort of initiation/coming of age ceremony that he was invited to. Stroud is pretty good at keeping his show "unscripted" so I'd tend to believe the whole "they heard through the jungle drums" sort of deal.

I went over to the Discovery Channel forums and looked it up and they're saying this isn't the last episode of "Survivorman" and there will be a 4th season, and that Stroud is doing other side projects too.

If the dude didn't live, then how did Discovery get the footage?

My guess is that he makes it, and the "suspense ending" was for ratings.
