Default The Tonight Show with Conan O'brien:

Thoughts on the first episode, anyone?

I enjoyed it. Ferrell was annoying and ruined the interview portion, but I loved most of the skits (The only flop was Hollywoo). Pearl Jam, though personally not a fan, played a nice set. It seemed strange to have a tonight show crowd sooooo into the show. Definitely was a college scene.

glad to have Conan back, it was like watching one of his old shows.

Suprised Ferrell kept his pants on last night.

Going to be interesting to see how he works Andy Richter back into some skits. I think that'll be a plus early on.

Conan has always seemed to have a younger following. I'll start watching the Tonight Show now, that's for sure.

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with PJ's performance. The instruments were fine, but the vocals were terrible. Last night's with Tom Hanks, though, was a great show. The meteor hitting him had me damn near in tears I was laughing so hard

The Mix was off. If you rip the MP3 of the performance it is drastically different. They still sound awesome.

That's the thing with Vedder, even when he went through that annoying phase for a few albums where he almost mumbled the lyrics, whenever you see him live (with a good sound setup) he still has that amazing baritone and unmatched range he was always known for. As you say, I would think the mixing was suspect.

It was stated on CNN this morning that the ratings for the Tonight Show has went down each day since Conan's first night.

In other news, NFL ratings took a slight dip the week following the Superbowl. TV analysts were baffled.

The more pertinent and interesting point will be if he is still beating Letterman. As long as that is the case Conan has nothing to worry about. It will really be interesting to see how he does. He will get a lot of younger people (such as myself, if I was ever up at 11:30) to watch the Tonight Show, when in the past I would have watched Letterman or something on cable at 11:30 but he may lose some of the old fogeys who liked Leno, luckily for NBC these people don't really have much of an alternative as Letterman is likely too hip for them as well.

I saw two of the shows this week and thought they were both good. If the really A-list stars don't do the Leno show at 10:00 he will be just fine.
