I could be wrong but I thought I read that that one clip is all you see of Scotty in the movie. I'm not sure if they gave young "Bones"" McCoy more then a cameo. I'm only a fan of the original Star Trek. I never got caught up in any of the spinoffs.

The original was fun for the pure cheese and polystyrene sets, I kinda liked the Next Generation with Data being a great character before the movies gave him emotions. The other spinoffs took clear influence from Babylon 5, a show I was a big fan of with Deep Space Nine obviously mimicking their large story arc idea rather than the usual "save the universe in 45mins" every week of usual Trek.

I agree (except for the Babylon 5 stuff... I never watched). I thought TNG was great, and when DS9 got into the 3rd season it really took off. It got even better when Worf was added to the show.

How could the first motion picture kick off the "every other film" theory if there's only one film at the time?

Babylon 5 was great. Series 1 was a case of finding its feet with only the odd hint at the big story, and the final series was fairly weak, but the seasons in between were fantastic, with two big plotlines - the shadow/vorlon war and the earth conspiracy (which were both tied) - reaching across three seasons. And unlike Trek, it was all about story and drama (and the odd bit of cheesy acting) rather than plug and play technology saving the day every episode. I'd recommend catching up with it if you can, the effects hold up well still, also. DS9 was very much in the usual Trek mold for a while, but when B5 starting picking up awards and huge ratings, that's pretty much when they started with the big plot, galactic battles and dramatic space battles - just like DS9. For a mainstream show, B5 could have quite dark themes and character development also.

Well, based on what I know about you, if you like it, I probably will as well.

I remembered a plot hole in this new movie without knowing much about it on my drive in to work today.

In the original series, it's considered a big surprise when the Enterprise first meets the Romulans. They don't know anything about them, except that they're emotional and look like Spock. But this movie takes place before the original series and the main villain is a Romulan.

I know that's really geeky and obscure, and I guess we should all just ignore a minor plot hole dating back to a TV show made in the 60's.

From what I understand, this isn't so much of a prequel as it is a reboot or reimagining. They're going for the new Batman/new Bond approach if I'm not mistaken.

If that's true, then I just cannot see any hard core Trekkie fan loving this.

Oh I agree. I could be wrong of course. However, I wouldn't see a reboot as a big deal. I apologize in advance to any hardcore Trekkies, however, I can't see how ignoring the gospel of the almost-campy original tv show would be awful. To me, ignoring the movies would be bad. The show? Not as much.

Im kind of torn. On the one hand, a re-do on TOS with more drama and less cheese would be great...on the other, making Shatner and Nemoy non-canon just doesnt seem right

Maybe two plot holes.

This shows Kirk being able to drive a car with a stick. In "A Piece of the Action", he couldn't drive a stick, and barely had any knowledge of how to drive. Now, that's really geeky and obscure ;-)

As for the Romulan, they might get away with it like they did on "Enterprise" There was an episode there that dealt with Romulans, but they never saw what they looked like face to face.

I was really looking forward to seeing what they did with this movie. After seeing the trailer, I'm not so sure.

Hey, will Jonathan Archer be mentioned in this movie?

Is "Enterprise" worth catching up on?

Isn't the time of Enterprise several hundred years before Kirk's time? Not that that would mean they wouldn't mention him.

I'd love to watch through all of the series, it just sucks that unlike most TV DVD sets, Star Trek costs $70 a pop :/

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about Enterprise, aside from the awful, non-Star Trek opening music lol.
