I wouldn't underestimate how eager this kid is to pitch regularly in the bigs and how much he wanted to be with what he sees as his team during its fast start, to the point where he just hasn't been there his last couple starts. it might still mean he's not ready to pitch in the majors, but it seems like it'd be a "better" problem than if he succeeded through smoke and mirrors throughout most of spring training and is now beginning to become completely unglued.

| according to pelfrey: "I threw a lot more changeups and I threw a lot more sliders than I usually would," Pelfrey told the Port St. Lucie News. "I'm just trying to get a feel for it and work to execute pitches. It was good actually getting into it. Here it's a lot different. Guys are swinging away. It's kind of hard. ... It felt like it's really been a while since I've been out there. It took me a little while to find my rhythm and get back into it, but overall I felt good." http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ba...r_start-1.html |

6 innings pitched and 2 earned runs makes you guys uneasy? Christ. If he can pitch to the tune of a 3.00 ERA all season I'll consider that a massive success. I'm beginning to think Dave is right. This kid isn't going to be given a fair shake unless he is lights out. A bit reminiscent of Lastings Milledge circa 2006.l

Pelfrey doesn't hit on pre-teens so he's ok in MY book!

| the lack of control, the lack of K's and the being hit is what is scary. Not expecting 1984 Dwight Gooden, I just do not think this kid has enough under his belt, they are asking him to develop a new breaking ball and off speed pitches at the major league level when his fastball appears to lack movement. |

I think he will get a fair shake. It isn't that he needs to be lights out but I think it is bad for Pelfrey to stay up in the bigs if he isn't at least a solid starter. Nothing is going to be gained by him from getting smacked around on the big league level. We can't afford for him to get his confidence shaken by not performing well as a big leaguer (see Floyd, Gavin). The team, and Pelfrey, would be better served then to let him get some seasoning in the minors. Just my two cents.
