Murphy went 3 for 5 with a HR, walk-off double, and three RBI yesterday. He did commit his third error of the season though, which opened the door to a four run rally that Kunz helped along with another bad outing. Josh Thole went 2 for 4 with his first HR of the season too...

While Murph continues to knock the crap out of the ball. I hope Manuel finds a way to get him 450 at bats in '09.

Good MiLB.com article on Josh Thole. Looks like the Mets finally put one over on the kid loving Fish. I hope he's not exposed to the Rule 5 draft...

Thole's patience being rewarded | MLB.com: News

Quote:
The Mets surprised Josh Thole in 2005 when they drafted him in the 13th round. The young first baseman-turned-catcher has been surprising in his own right since.

Thole, who turned 22 at the end of October, appeared headed to the Marlins just before the Draft. The two sides had talked and had a handshake agreement before New York swooped in and grabbed him. During his first three seasons in the Mets' system, he played more first base and designated hitter than he did catcher, but this season proved to be a breakout year for the Illinois native, one in which he may have established himself as New York's top catching prospect.

Yup. Pretty much figured because Omar has stated that Murph's future might be at 1B down the line. He has 4 errors and has had all kinds of issues in trying to turn the dp.

From Amazin' avenue some updates: In Arizona:

In Hawaii:

Ruben Tejada went 0-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored.
Jordan Abruzzo went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts.
Josh Stinson allowed a run on two hits -- one of them a solo homerun -- in an inning of relief.
Roy Merritt struck out two and walked one in two innings of work.
In the Dominican Republic:

Fernando Martinez went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Argenis Reyes went 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Fernando Tatis went 1-for-4 with a strikeout.
In Puerto Rico:

Nick Evans went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.

Murphy has only played once this week, but I have no idea why...

Nick Evans is about the only other bat to care about in Winter Ball, and is off to an 0 for 14 start in Puerto Rico with 7 K's...

Fernando Martinez now hitting .394/.438/.652 with 3 HR's and 15 RBI in 66 Winter League AB's. Martinez went 3 for 4 with a dinger last night off of Philly prospect Antonio Bastardo...

Dillon Gee is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings in Puerto Rico, allowing seven hits while striking out 11 and walking nobody...

Parnell had a good outing yesterday, going 4 innings and allowing just one hit with three K's and one walk. He's not hurting his value out there at all. He's 3-1, 2.25 in 20 IP on the season, with 20 K's and 9 walks...

Josh Thole is at .338/.420/.446, with two dingers and 17 RBI in 65 AB's. He's also earning praise from the pitchers behind the plate..

Still no sign of Murphy...

Trade him while his value is at its highest to date.

According to a league source, Mets 2B Daniel Murphy suffered a right knee sprain in the Arizona Fall League, which is why he has not played since Nov. 10.

Murphy had been hitting .397 with 18 RBI in 15 games during the AFL.

He has played in 163 games this season, counting his time with the Mets, in the minors and in Arizona.

Another blown save from Kunz today. ERA back up into the quadruple digits. If anyone ever wanted to see how Heilwoman would perform in one of the worst pitchers leagues on the planet, this is your guy...
