Default Mets sign Tony Armas, Jr. to NRI

Not bad, as long as he's Option Z and he earns his way into some role eventually, if any.

Fantasy Baseball - news, projections, cheatsheets, depth charts, draft guide - Rotoworld.com

Mets signed RHP Tony Armas Jr. to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Not that he had much chance anyway after posting a 6.03 ERA last season, but Armas picked the wrong place to win a rotation spot given the Mets' pitching depth following the deal for Johan Santana. Barring an injury, his best chance to win a spot on the Opening Day roster will likely come as a long reliever.

As long as he's not being counted on to make an immediate impact, this is fine.

Fair enough. He's only 29.

Decent filler for the NO rotation and Plan Z.

I hope he's willing to go to AAA. I guess he could be a long man if not, but I would say that Sosa is probably ideal for that role. We're talking about a rubber arm versus a paper one here...

On the upside, Armas Jr doesn't need to gauged with an hourglass, or weighed in tonnage...
