Default Retaining/regaining bat speed when you are over 35

Are there any coaches or trainers out there who know how to effectively accomplish this? The reason why I an asking is Delgado. I am hoping that he was working on getting that back this winter. Regardless about how members of this message board feel about his politics or his one really stupid statement about being bored last year. We need the guy to hit for us this year or we are in trouble.

i got my Phd in bat speedology and there's a 75% chance that carlos will be able to raise his bat speed past what it was when he was 28. Amazing? Nay.

Depends on what his troubles really were last year. If he was compensating for some injury, maybe it wasnt a lack of bat speed so much as it was discomfort. He did get hot a few times only to have some freak injury sidelining him for 10-15 days.

I can see him declining in 2007, but not at the rapid pace it happened at (38HR 116RBI in 06 to 24/87 in 07). So only time and AB will tell.

Agreed, team will be in trouble if he doesnt hit.

Need it. Won't get it. The sooner this malignancy is off the team, the better for everyone. Be honest... who read the thread title about "regaining bat speed" and didn't know it was about Johnny Jihad.

I think salfino on SNY said it, and I think it's a great phrase: delgado will bounce back the way a dead cat bounces.

that captures how I feel about it - I think he'll do better than last year, maybe even be an above-average first baseman (offensively speaking), but his days of monster production are behind him.

The best way to retain bat speed when you're over 35 is to be named Moises Alou.

OK, so how do you (not voodoo specifically, but everyone like KO who just wants to dismiss Delgado) know that he wasn't doing the regiment this winter that Alou does to stay sharp now that he has played a year with him and has also been through an off year (which should tell him that he needs to change things up), which would then result in a bounce back year?

Oh, because you don't like his politics, that's why. Of course, how foolish of me.

No, I just wanted to crack a joke about Moises Alou

Delgado I'm hoping was simply not entirely healed up from his surgery.

Yeah, but my point is that Alou obviously is doing something right, why can't Delgado do the same. Hopefully he was.

I'm is a snit about this because I read some preview mag last night that basically said that "Delgado has lost his bat speed and that's it", but that makes no sense given Alou (assuming that Moises is not on the juice).

Guess who was in the footage SNY put on the screen with the "Omar challenges his team" caption?

Did he stay on the screen, or did he get "bored"?
