Default am I missing something? (metsblog)

Note: Burrell Talks with Mets Fans | MetsBlog.com

…a friend of MetsBlog, who i trust, recently bumped in to Phillies OF Pat Burrell while at dinner in Arizona…her table was introduced to him as a group of Mets fans…he was much nicer than she expected he would be…however, according to burrell, he would be open to playing for the Mets when they enter Citi Field in 2009…upon hearing this news, our friend stopped talking and refused to shake his hand as he walked away…

…i don’t blame her, though i am sure he said this in an effort to get a rise out of people he knows must despise him…

not that this story is important in the least... but am I missing something? if you ran into burrell in the street and had a nice conversation, and burrell eventually said he'd consider playing for the mets when he hits the market, would you find that offensive? I don't get it.

I think the underlying suggestion is he would play for the Mets AFTER they tear down his personal stomping ground shea stadium.

OK, I missed that. I assumed he said 2009 because that is when he hits the FA market or something.

Still, if it's in the context of a pleasant, civil conversation, I still don't know why it would offend anybody but the most humorless.

The offensive part is that the Mets are the only team he can hit against which, of course, would make him a prime target for the front office.

Still, in that context, where he was actually being civil, there was no reason to react that way. Lack of class on the part of the Met fan.

I don't get it either. I can't imagine getting mad at any professional athlete that took time to actually talk to me even if he was on a team I hated. I'm guessing this writer embellished what happened to make it more interesting.

I Met Pat Burrell, and, oddly, he apparently loves hitting the Mets so much, he punched the effing blue and orange cap off my dome. Right there on the street, without provocation.

True story.

I believe it. I've heard stories about what a complete douchebag Burrell is. In fact I witnessed some of his asshattery myself when some Philly friends of mine and I went to a Phils-Pirates game in PNC a number of years ago. They were bouncing around a beach ball in the picnic area/ bleachers and some kid about 10 accidentally hit it on the field during a Phils pitching change, and Burrell caught it and whaled it right back at the kid.

But I'm with '84 on this one. Still racking my brain to figure out how that Citifield thing's offensive

Umm...you don't think it's possible that he got annoyed because he thought it was thrown on the field deliberately?

Yeah, severe beach ball trauma is the number one cause of death among outfielders.

I don't know if it has anything to do with Citifield. Maybe she just doesn't like him and doesnt want him playing for the Mets.

My cousin's manager's sister-in-law once saw Burrell on line at Arby's and when Burrell complimented her on her dress she puked all over his Nikes.
