Default 1973 Met Jim Beauchamp dies

1973 Met Jim Beauchamp dies at 68 years old. Jim was a career baseball man of 50 years. His final playing days were spent with the 1973 Mets as a backup first baseman/pinch hitter on a team that won the 1973 Pennant with one of the biggest comebacks to take their division in the final days of the 1973 season. They lost the 1973 World Series to the Oakland A's, a team which is regarded by most people as the best team of the 1970's having won three consecutive World Championships. The mets winning that division titles was the big comback story of 1973 as opposed to this years biggest choke story of 2007. Beauchamp was a nice quiet guy who earlier had been a big bonus baby in the early 1960's but although he had great minor league stats, never really made it too big in the major leagues. His son Kash was to follow him with a similiar career. Jim was a long time coach in the Atlanta Brave organization. But to me he will always be a '73 met.

Amen to that. Loved his 1974 topps card. He's a met for life in my book.

Why did Beauchamp change his uniform number to 5 during the '72 season?
