| He's a "non-tender" free agent. The Mets could still re-sign him to a minor league deal. I think he was non-tendered because the Mets don't expect him to be ready to pitch to start the season, but I really don't know any specifics about his current injury status.

| Juan Padilla eyes Mets' bullpen role Juan Padilla eyes Mets' bullpen role BY ANTHONY McCARRON DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER Saturday, December 22nd 2007, 4:00 AM Juan Padilla, a righthanded reliever who has missed the last two seasons because of two elbow surgeries, agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Friday and said he hopes to compete for a spot in the team's crowded bullpen. Padilla, 30, was 3-1 with a 1.49 ERA in 24 games for the Mets in 2005 but hasn't pitched in the majors since undergoing Tommy John surgery and another operation on his pronator tendon (in the forearm). But, he said in a telephone interview yesterday, he will be healthy for spring training. He threw a bullpen session recently and was "95%," he said.

*disclaimer: I was calling him a fatty fat-fat, not talking about any part of his anatomy. Not that there is any thing wrong with that sort of thing if you were hoping that was the way it was meant. | |

| I'm just kidding. I have no idea if he is a fat ass like all Mets injured players are destined to be, leaving him as crappy talent wise as a Mets prospect. All of which are not very highly regarded by any GM other than Omar. |

| The more the merrier as far as tryouts for the bullpen go. However, what's the big deal with this guy? Wasn't he a not-so-great journeyman type before the Mets picked him up? I don't think he had a good year until his initial stint with the Mets. Not to say he can't be a decent reliever.

| Padilla was nothing-and-nothing until he had an insanely good couple of dozen innings in 2004, which statisticians largely attribute to a really low BABIP. Padilla is the anti-Heath Bell. Padilla seems as adequate as the next guy to be an emergency reliever when injuries strike, but I'm not expecting him to relegate Heilman to the seventh inning.
