| I was thinking about how we really seemed to have had a 20 year or so gap between developing good players. That said, we'd make one hell of a team: Catcher - Grote 1base - Ah, shitballs 2nd Base - Eh, Fonzie SS - Reyes 3rd Base - Captain Cliche LF - Preston Wilson RF - Strawberry CF - Mookie ('Cuause I met him in the locker room, very nice to me when I was younger. Fan favorite, I am big baby in this regard, I know) Pitchers: Seaver Koosman Dwhite Powder Ryan El Sid Relievers: Tug Izzy Heilman Orosco Not a bad team, man. Imagine that team in its prime. Just for fun, nothing more... Note: Now, I want to name the more established older time Met outfielders, but I am referring only to homegrown and only the vets on this board can help me with that regard. I started watching in 83 and I am too lazy to check in google if Agee/Clendenon were all homegrowns/trades/etc. But not a bad team at all. Makes me wish we could build a stronger core to add to Wright/Reyes. Nothing beats having a good team with a nice homegrown core. And it was surprising to see just how much really good talent come from this organization. Also consider what it'd mean if Clemens had signed with us out of High School. Wow... |

| Steve Phillips' secretary is now happy, as he's got wood for hours now... Is that the Steve Phillips draft montage special? Good Lord what a pile O' dung he and his previous admin of the last 10 years piled onto our heads. Woof. I mean, do we have the world record for most horrible useless ****ing draftees pre 2003? Al Shirley Ryan Jzarnock (SP?) Jason Tyner (First round? Get the **** out of here) Ricky Otero Butch Huskey Aaron Ledesma Man, I remember in 1993 reading the 'prospect report' and thinking "WOW, Huskey/Ledesma look great! Hey, who is this alfonzo kid? He looks funny" Dead serious. My scouting career ended that night. |

| yep and yep but Orosco was from the Twins. Aguilera was a great closer drafted by the Mets. So was Jeff Reardon and Randy Myers

| Jerry Grote was acquired from the Stros for Tom Parsons. Todd Hundley was the best C that was developed in the Mets system. Amos Otis and Ken Singleton also belong on the All-Star Mets prospect lists.

| All in all this desperate attempt to assemble an "all home grown team" only emphasizes how shitty this organization has been run for the last...... oh, forever. The best "prospect" that the Mets ever "developed" was acquired in a special drawing due to the Braves circumventing the existing rules to acquire him.

| When I typed Hundley I said to myself "No way, there has to be another one" and I figured the old guys wanted to see him listed. I worried that a lot of the 69 guys I wanted to mention wouldn't be. But I forgot about Orosco. I always thought he was a homegrown. And instead of El sid, I thought of guys like Aj Burnett and...and... What a drag. Last night I thought "Hey, not bad" but today I am back to the old "Jesus Chripes this team can't develop jack ****" Thank GOD for Reyes/Wright. |

| While I think its interesting to try to name successful prospects the Mets have brought up through their system (Jon Matlack?), I think this idea that the Mets woes are based solely on their inability to develop a team that consists mostly of home-grown talent is overblown. Take the '86 Mets. Some of those guys came up through the farm system, but not everyone. Certainly not Carter, Hernandez, or Knight - all critical members of the team. Gooden may have come up through the farm system, but Ojeda, Darling and Fernandez didn't. The point is that a successful team develops some players and then acquires others from trades and (these days) free agency. My frustration with the Mets is that they seem to be stuck in the mode where young players aren't getting a chance to play everyday and learn how to be a major leaguer. The Mets aren't a player or two away from a championship. So why not give the young guys a chance to develop? |
