| Just thinking, what would the impact be if we could somehow make a fair deal for a guy like Lackey? A guy that doesn't have the 'sick stuff' of a Santana/etc, but would likely be a horse and do well in the NL? I sometimes wonder if we should look for guys that can project to do well in the NL, even if they are not true aces. Guys who are really good #2's instead of guys who take #2's (Livan/Silva) Thoughts? Please note, I am not suggesting he is available. I just wonder if such a move, if it could come to fruition, would be satisfactory to you if we cannot land Santana. To me, I think it would do us a lot of good if it's a good fit. I'm also wondering if we should consider guys with upside who have lost value, such as Ervin Santana. A guy who had an 8+ era on the road before his demotion, but has shown the stuff to dominate the Yankees in the post-season and a guy who might just need a change of scenery. He's not a guy you plug in as your #3, but a guy who might pay off later. I just think that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to scout high upside guys as well as #2's. Save a bit of the farm and still upgrade or at least put yourself in a position to find a steal over time. Worked with Oliver Perez... |

...... I'm finding it harder and harder to fight this attitude off...As far as LAckey goes.. Defiante interest.. I think he flies under the radar..I would NOT mind him on Mets staff..and would take him even over Haren as he has more of a proven track record..

BTW, I hope I am dead wrong regarding my comment... I just have absolute zero faith in this organization right now. It all comes down, IMO, to Fred/Jeff knowing that Shea (2008) and the first 2-3 seasons at Citi Field will be cash cows, regardless of what kind of team the Mets put on the field. This is great for them, but bad for the fans, who once again, get a 1-2 year bone (successful seasons) tossed to them, only for the Mets to slip back to their usual selves when push comes to shove.

| Except I am using him as an example as a guy who might not be "Santana Like" but still very much an upgrade. The point, as I stated, wasn't that *he* is available, but that we should expand our search for more than the usual suspects. I know some fans are 'Santana or bust" while others are "We are doomed no matter what". So I just wanted to see what they felt was satisfactory before we (make that, THEY, don't want to be gay) enter spring training. |

| I'll say this for a 3rd time...he is an EXAMPLE as I stated 2 times. So it's not moot. The point is, IF the time comes where we land a solid but not 'filthy' stud like Santana, is that good enough? Or do we NEED a top teir dominant ace? Even if it meant waiting til 7/31. It's not about 'he is available' it's about 'where do you think this team is now' and 'is one pitcher worth the farm + $140m or should we review other options?' I'm trying to be nice here, but I can't say this enough; it's an example to get a conversation going. Not to be literally focused on Lackey. Yes, I know he's not on the market now. |

| I believe Lackey will be a FA after '08..so he SHOULD be on radar..and if talks are ongoing/or brreakdown..Perhaps Angels may be WILLING to deal him at some point especailly since they also have an abundance of sp now after the GArland deal right..? Not an unreasonable suggestion..just not sure if he will go on the market.. |
